Between ATS's trail days at both ends and the help of the USDA Forest Service Pintler Ranger District... The entire 11 miles is clear.

We got word today that our local skeleton Pintler Trail Crew (meaning this crew is kicking butt with only a few on the team- a big change from past years) worked all day today to clear the remaining middle section.

Tallying the number of trees cut from the trail from each trail day, over 300 🌲 were cleared!

We encourage everyone to go enjoy this trail from either side

With all the recent rain, it's a great time to talk about wet trail etiquette.

Trails like Copper Link are built to shed water, but when tires, hooves, or boots leave ruts in wet soil, those ruts collect and channel water. What starts as a single muddy track can quickly turn into erosion that requires significant volunteer time and money to repair.

That's why we ask everyone - hikers, bikers, and equestrians - to give these new trails a little time to dry after storms. A little patience goes a long way in protecting a major community investment! Luckily we don't usually see a ton of rain out here.

A friendly reminder that Copper Link is a non-motorized trail. Motorized access in the area remains unchanged, and more motorized trail opportunities are planned through the ADLC Open Lands Recreation Plan, and coming soon! Copper Link simply adds another recreation option for our community.

As Anaconda's trail system continues to grow, we'll be sharing more trail etiquette and stewardship tips along the way. Thanks for helping us care for something special!

Lost Creek Trail is officially clear until the cabin (about 3 miles up).

ATS volunteers kicked butt and made a huge pull today. Between our epic sawyers 🪚, strong swampers 💪, drain digging master 🪏, and very serious trail foreman, Sadie 🐶, the Anaconda Trail Society cleared over 150 trees today!

Hard work like this is truly a labor of love. A love for the outdoors and sharing recreation with our community.

Keep an eye out for our next trail day (TBD) to clear further in on this trail.

Join us tomorrow at Lost Creek for a trail work day from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM!

We'll be tackling puddle drainage, clearing downed trees, and helping get the trail back into shape. No experience is needed, and all tools will be provided.

There will almost certainly be some wet weather. We'll work as long as conditions allow and may get rained out early, so come for as much or as little time as you can.

Please RSVP at the link below so we know you're coming!

Give back to the trails you love. 🛠️
We’re excited to help spread the word about the upcoming Trail Skills 101 Clinic & Trail Adopter Training hosted near Anaconda on the Twin Lakes trail system on July 10th.
Curious about trail work but not sure where to start? This hands-on clinic is designed for beginners and will cover:
• Trail maintenance fundamentals
• Basic trail stewardship techniques
• How to make an impact on the trails we all enjoy
• An introduction to the CDTC Trail Adopter Program

No experience needed, just a willingness to learn and help care for our local trails.
This is a great opportunity to build skills, meet other trail users, and get more involved in maintaining and improving the places we ride, hike, and explore.

Huge thanks to Bob from for helping lead an awesome trail work day with the Anaconda Trail Society. This group of people were absolute champs tackling colder, wet weather, and the crew agreed the cooler temps actually made for a pretty great day on the trail.

Foster Creek is one of ATS’s favorite local trails. This beautiful remote singletrack offers a fun, flowy feel with a great mix of dirt and rock, making it a local favorite for both hiking and mountain biking.

The crew covered over 5 miles total while working into the Lost Creek area before snow finally turned everyone around. Along the way, the group cleared roughly 15–20 downed trees, added several drain dips, raked and cleaned sections of trail, cleared trees from the parking lot, and even opened up portions of the road heading toward the trailhead.

Big thanks to Bob, Jackson, Mike, Rick, Karen, Sean, Huck, and George for coming out ready to work hard and have fun doing it. We also appreciate the many good citizens who have already been out on this local trail to clear. The trails are already better because of your effort!

Join us May 31st to tackle the Lost Creek Trail side!

Quick question: what percentage of the Continental Divide Trail actually runs along the Continental Divide?

The name suggests 100%. The truth is more interesting.

🗺️ About 10% of the CDT sits within 100 feet of the physical Divide
🗺️ Roughly 24% is within 1/8 mile
🗺️ Nearly half (47%) is within 1 mile

So why doesn't the trail just trace the Divide the whole way? Terrain, water access, land ownership, and safety all shape the route. The CDT threads through valleys, around lakes, and over high passes to give hikers, riders, and equestrians the safest path through some of the most rugged country in the lower 48.

The exception? The Montana–Idaho border. Up there, the trail rides the spine of the continent for miles at a stretch, closer to the Divide than anywhere else on the CDT.

Big thanks to our trail information and GIS staff for crunching the numbers and putting these maps together.
