The Sipping Shed is officially set up and ready to serve you! 🥤🇺🇸

Come celebrate the 4th of July with us in the Town of Amherst! The Amherst-Nelson 4-H Livestock Judging Team is excited and ready to mix up our delicious dirty sodas, lemonade, and more!

Stop by, cool off with a refreshing drink, and support our judging team as we raise funds for upcoming competitions. We can't wait to see everyone this evening!

🐇🐓 Amherst County residents... you asked, and we listened!

We're excited to announce that the Amherst County Fair Livestock Show is slowly beginning to introduce Rabbit and Chicken shows! While we're certainly not the experts, we're partnering with a great group of knowledgeable individuals to develop a fair, fun, and educational set of rules and regulations.

We're working hard behind the scenes, so please stay tuned as we release more information in the coming weeks.

If your child is interested in showing rabbits or chickens, we'd love to hear from you! Please reach out so we can gauge interest and keep you updated as plans come together.

We can't wait to continue growing opportunities for the youth of Amherst County! 🐰🐥💙

Come cool off with the Amherst-Nelson 4-H Livestock Judging Team at the Town of Amherst 4th of July Celebration this Saturday, June 27, from 5:00–9:30 PM! 🇺🇸🎆

Good luck to the Amherst-Nelson 4-H Livestock Judging Team as they compete at the State Judging Contest today!
For many of these kids, today will be their very first time giving oral reasons in a contest setting. Some are nervous, some are excited, but all of them have worked incredibly hard over the last several months preparing for this moment.

We couldn't be more proud of the dedication, growth, and determination they've shown along the way. A huge thank you goes to Coach Ethan Jackson, whose commitment to these kids and this program is second to none. His time, knowledge, and encouragement have helped make today possible.

Everyone please help us cheer on these awesome young people representing Amherst and Nelson Counties! They are looking sharp this morning and ready to give it their all. Good luck, team—we're proud of you! 🍀🐄🏆

The Amherst 4-H Livestock Club is currently fundraising to help cover the costs of sending our youth members to two incredible educational opportunities this summer: the Virginia Tech Livestock Judging Camp and the University of Tennessee Livestock Judging Camp.

These camps provide hands-on learning experiences that help our kids develop their livestock evaluation skills, build confidence, and prepare them for future leadership opportunities in agriculture.

Our team is made up of hardworking, dedicated young people who are eager to learn and grow. If you'd like to support these kids and invest in their future, please let me know. Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated!

Sawyer Tomlin is excited to showcase his market hog, Elvis, at the Central Virginia Livestock Show & Sale this Friday and Saturday!

Sawyer is an impressive young showman, excelling in both the pig and cattle rings. He’s proud of the hard work he’s put into this project and is looking forward to a great weekend in the ring.

💬 Sawyer says:
“My market hog’s name is Elvis. He is a crossbred barrow. Elvis is full of muscle and a stout-featured pig. After only 2 years of showing pigs, they have become a favorite of mine because of their personalities.”

• Saturday – Bid and support his project at the sale

It’s shaping up to be an exciting weekend — and you won’t want to miss it!

Friday Night:
Hog exhibitors kick things off at 4:30 PM, showcasing their hard work in the ring.

Saturday:
The day starts with the Goat Show at 8:15 AM, followed by lambs and cattle as the day continues.

Whether you join us for the entire day or just swing by for dinner at 6 PM, there’s something for everyone. Then grab your bidder number and step up to support a group of local kids who truly represent hard work, dedication, and the future of agriculture.

These exhibitors have put in countless hours caring for their animals — and it shows.

In search of meat to fill your freezer?

May 1 & 2 — Central Virginia Livestock Show & Sale

Josiah may be just two years into 4-H livestock, but he’s already learning what it takes to earn success. Day by day, working with his goat, putting in the time, and figuring things out through patience and persistence.

As Josiah puts it:
"I have been doing 4-H livestock club for 2 years. I enjoy working with my goat and taking care of it. My goat teaches me to have patience and to keep working for the success that I want from it."

That mindset is what this program is all about — building young men who understand responsibility, hard work, and not giving up when things get tough.

On May 2, his goat will sell in the live auction. When you step up to bid, you’re not just buying quality product — you’re investing in a kid who’s putting in the effort to grow and succeed

We’re excited to introduce Tirzah and her lamb & goat, which will be available during the LIVE AUCTION on May 2! 🐑🐐

Tirzah shares:
"I have been doing 4-H livestock for 4 years. I enjoy the challenge of raising and teaching an animal to show. It has taught me that I have to work for what I want and perseverance. I hope to use the skills of animal care in the future as I want to become a vet."

Her dedication and passion truly shine through in her projects, and we couldn’t be more proud of the hard work she’s put in!
