Tuesday was National Train Your Brain Day, so we are stretching it into the week with a riddle for the whole family.

What has keys but opens no locks, space but no room, and you can enter but not go in?
Drop your guess in the comments (no peeking at other answers).
Bonus points if you text it to a grandparent and report back how fast they got it.

Little daily challenges like this one are good for all of us. Keep sharing them.

Medicare Open Enrollment opens this Thursday, October 15, and runs through December 7. It is the one window each year when most people can change their coverage for the year ahead. (Did you know that moving into a community is a "life event"? Allowing you to make changes at the time of move-in into a senior living community). We are the only senior living resource program with a dedicated Medicare Specialist on our team!

Three things worth checking, even if you plan to keep what you have:
1. Prescriptions. Part D formularies change every year. A drug covered in 2026 may cost more, or need prior authorization, in 2027.
2. Plan changes. Medicare Advantage plans can change their doctor networks, copays, and extras like dental, vision, or transportation. Read the Annual Notice of Change that arrived in September.
3. Fit for the year ahead. If a parent's health or living situation is likely to change in 2027, make sure the plan still fits.

One important note our advocates share with nearly every family: Medicare does not pay for ongoing assisted living or memory care room and board. It covers medical care, not long-term custodial care. Knowing that early prevents a painful surprise later, and

it is the reason the other 30-plus financial pathways matter so much!!!

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we want to talk about a kind of stress that rarely gets named: financial worry during the senior living search.

More than half of the families we meet say money is their single biggest concern. Not the care. Not the community. The question of "can we actually afford this, and for how long?" It keeps adult children up at night and keeps parents from saying yes to help they need.

Here is how a Compass Financial Advocate helps lift that weight: we listen to your whole story first. We map out every resource that may apply, from benefits you did not know existed to assets you had not thought of as options. We put numbers to the plan so you can see how long it works. And we do it with no commissions and nothing to sell, so the advice is only ever about what is right for your family.

Families tell us the relief is immediate, often before a single decision is made. Clarity does that.

If the money conversation has been weighing on you, connect with an advocate. Call 866-449-1003 or email us at [email protected].

October is National Financial Planning Month, and the best time to understand the money side of senior living is before the first tour, not after you have fallen in love with a community.

Five questions worth asking every community you visit:
1. What is included in the monthly rate, and what costs extra?
2. How are care levels priced, and how is a level of care determined?
3. What one-time fees come at move-in?
4. How often do rates typically change, and by how much?
5. What happens if a resident's money runs short down the road?

None of these are rude questions. Good communities expect them and answer them clearly. And if the answers feel overwhelming, that is exactly what a Compass Financial Advocate is for: a senior living expert who sits on your side of the table and helps you understand what it all means for your family.

As Healthy Aging Month comes to a close, here is what actually happens when a family works with a Compass Financial Advocate.

We listen first. Before we talk about a single resource, we learn your story, your worries, and what "the right decision" looks like to you.

We explore every option. Our advocates know more than 30 financial pathways, from veterans benefits and long-term care insurance to home equity strategies, tax deductions, and elder law resources. We check all of them against your situation, not just the easy ones.

We earn no commissions. Ever. Our advocates are former senior living professionals, not product salespeople. There is nothing for us to sell you.

The decision is always the families. Our job is to make sure it is an informed one. Advocates spend an average of 11 hours with each family so nothing gets missed and no one feels rushed.

Communities partner with Compass because every family deserves this kind of guidance. If you have been putting off "the money conversation," this is your sign to start it.

Reach us at 866-449-1003. Because financial fear should never decide care.

We missed National Coffee Day by a day, so we are stretching it into Coffee Week.

Here is the deal: pour a cup, and ask us anything about the financial side of senior living.
Nothing is too small or too awkward.

"Is it true veterans can get help?" "What happens to Dad's pension?" "Can we afford this if Mom lives to 100?" "Do we really have to sell the house?"

Drop your question in the comments, or message us privately if you prefer. Our senior living experts will answer every one.

It is the question we hear in almost every conversation: "Do we have to sell the house before Mom can move?"

Short answer: not always.

The house is often a family's largest asset, and it is also the one that takes the longest to turn into cash. That gap is where families get stuck. Some of the pathways our advocates walk through:

Bridge financing that covers the move while the home sells.
Home equity options that let the home fund care without an immediate sale.
Renting the home to create monthly income.
Timing the sale so the move is not held hostage by the market.

Each option has trade-offs, and the right one depends on the family. That is why we explore every available option together, rather than handing you a list and wishing you luck.

Connect with us and we will support your through this journey.

It is Falls Prevention Awareness Week, and for many families that means a close call has started a conversation. A stumble on the stairs. A night alone that felt too long. And then the words we hear more than any other: "We're not ready yet."

Here is what we want every family to know: that is a real answer, and we respect it.
Being "not ready" does not mean you cannot start understanding your options. Many of the families we work with begin a year or more before a move, simply so that if the time comes, the financial side is already clear and the decision can be about care, not fear.

Our promise to families: your questions will be answered honestly. Your timeline will be honored. Your decision will always be yours.

Whenever you are ready to talk we are here. No pressure, no product, just guidance you can trust.

🍁 πŸŽƒ Happy first week of fall! Our team's official autumn bucket list:

Apple pie from scratch. A scenic drive with the windows cracked. A phone call to a friend you have not talked to in too long. One porch afternoon with absolutely nowhere to be.

And one we hope you will add: one honest conversation about the future. Not a scary one. Just a "what would you want, if it ever came to that?" over coffee.

Families tell us the hardest part was starting the conversation, and the easiest part was how relieved everyone felt afterward.
