The Panhandle Chapter is honored to host TMCA’s Economic Development Seminar in Amarillo, Texas.

The day started with a great State of Texas "WELCOME" from Dr. Amy Holt, TMCA President Gretchen Mercer, Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley, and Canyon Mayor Gary Hinders.

After the warm welcome, Slater Elza, with Underwood Law, started the first learning session of the day.

Our Bi-Monthly Meeting had an exceptional program with, Luke Jones, Intelligence Liaison for City of Amarillo. He provided very informative insights in regards to safety & security. We also celebrated two of our TRMC Graduates, Machiel Zant Covey City Secretary for Clarendon & Chyanne Robertson with City of Dumas with personalized gifts for this amazing accomplishment.

City Clerk Gretchen Mercer, TRMC/CMC, from the City of Canyon and City Secretary Kimberly Sloat, TRMC/SHRM-CP, from the City of Canadian attended an Athenian Dialogue — a structured conversation focused on leadership, ethics, and decision-making — based on The Women by Kristin Hannah in Grapevine on February 26.

They then participated in the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Region IV Meeting on February 27.

It was a great opportunity for professional development, connection, and strengthening leadership skills in municipal service.

Our Bi-Monthly Meeting had an exceptional program with, Courtney White, Senior Assistant City Attorney for City of Amarillo. She provided very informative and most up to date information in regards to PIA. We also celebrated two of our TRMC Graduates, Jonni Glick Assistant City Secretary for Amarillo & Natalie Porter Watkins with City of Fritch with personalized gifts for this amazing accomplishment.

At the Texas Municipal Clerks Association Election Law Seminar on January 22, 2026, the Panhandle Chapter was proud to celebrate three members who earned their certification as a Texas Registered Municipal Clerk (TRMC). Please help us congratulate Amarillo Assistant City Secretary Jonni Glick, Fritch City Secretary Natalie Watkins, and Dumas City Secretary Cheyanne Robinson on earning their TRMC credentials.

We were also proud to celebrate two members who continued their journey of excellence by recertifying their TRMC credentials. Stinnett City Secretary Stacie Miller received her first TRMC recertification, and Clarendon City Secretary, Machiel Covey received her second TRMC recertification.

The certifications and recertifications demonstrate these members’ continued hard work and dedication to strive to continue learning keeping each of thier cities best interest at heart.
