Remember when we planted this garden back in the spring?

Look at it now!

This week, Cecilia and Teresa stopped by to check on things and make sure everything was coming along nicely. Thanks to the care of our survivors and some welcome rain, the garden is thriving. Onions, herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and more are filling the raised beds.

Tiffany Laur, LPC, one of our Cancer Survivorship Center counselors, put it perfectly. "New plants have to persevere through heat, cold, and even hail before they bloom. Our survivors are some of the hardiest plants."

Because of supporters like you, survivors have a place to continue growing long after treatment ends. The Cancer Survivorship Center offers free resources and provides a community for anyone impacted by cancer. Thank you.

We'll keep you posted as this garden grows. Do you have anything planted in your own gardens? Tell us!

Today, on National Cancer Survivors Day, we celebrate the cancer survivors who inspire us day in and day out with their strength, resilience, and determination.

At 24 Hours in the Canyon this year, one of the most moving moments unfolded as the race began. Survivors from the Cancer Survivorship Center lined the road in Palo Duro Canyon to cheer on the hundreds of riders who had come from near and far to support the local cancer community.

Cancer is hard, and so is riding in Palo Duro Canyon for 24 hours. For many riders, seeing the faces of the people they are riding for is a powerful reminder of why they committed to this challenge. For survivors, it's a chance to see firsthand the incredible 24 Hours family that stands beside them… a community made possible by the generosity of people who give their time, talents, and financial support, and who believe no one should face cancer alone.

The applause, smiles, hugs, and tears shared in those moments are difficult to put into words. They are reminders of battles fought and hope carried forward. They are reminders that even in the face of cancer, no one has to walk the journey alone.

To every survivor, thank you for allowing us to celebrate alongside you. Your courage continues to inspire us. Your stories give us hope. And your presence is the reason events like 24 Hours in the Canyon matter so much. Today, we celebrate you.

If you've never experienced 24 Hours in the Canyon, mark your calendars for June 5–6, 2027. It's more than a bike ride - it's a celebration of hope, perseverance, and the incredible community that comes together to support those impacted by cancer.

This weekend, hundreds of riders are doing something extraordinary in one of the most beautiful places on earth and every single pedal stroke is for our cancer survivors.

24 Hours in the Canyon kicks off this weekend in Palo Duro Canyon and we couldn't be more grateful for every rider, every volunteer, and every person who has raised funds to make the Cancer Survivorship Center Powered by 24 Hours in the Canyon possible. You're the reason our survivors have a place to heal, grow stronger, and find community, completely free of charge.

Ride safe. Ride strong. We'll be cheering you on every single mile!

Thank you for showing up for our survivors the way you do. It means everything to them and us.

Meet Brenda Zepeda Aguilar, the 2026 Russ Duncan Memorial Scholarship recipient.

Brenda's story starts in September 2022, the beginning of her freshman year. New school, new friends, and an exciting, fresh start. Until one day, after soccer practice, her mother, Maricela, told Brenda and her siblings that she had breast cancer.

From that day forward, Brenda watched her mother fight. She watched her sit in a chair draped in a towel, smiling through tears as her hair fell away. She watched her pray before chemotherapy treatments, light streaming through the windows. She watched a woman who came from hardship refuse to let cancer take her light.

And through all of it, Brenda kept going. She kept her grades up, showed up to soccer practice, and fought silent battles so her parents wouldn't have to carry one more thing. Soccer became her therapy. Her mother watched every single game. When she was too weak to attend in person, she watched through a screen. Brenda always knew she was there.

Her mother beat cancer. And then, a year later, Brenda's father, Leonardo, passed away suddenly. The family had just set down one heavy weight and picked up another. Her junior year was a daily battle, but she showed up anyway. For her dad. For her mom. For herself.

Last week, Brenda graduated from Palo Duro High School. She plans to attend Amarillo College to pursue engineering, following in her father's footsteps, and hopes to transfer to Oklahoma State or Texas Tech in the future. Brenda’s teacher and soccer coach, Shaun Massie, says it best: "Brenda’s experience has shaped her into a compassionate, driven, and goal-oriented young woman. Brenda embodies the perseverance and strength this scholarship seeks to honor."

We couldn't agree more. We are so proud to award Brenda the 2026 Russ Duncan Memorial Scholarship, and we can't wait to watch everything she does next.

Brenda, this community is SO proud of you and all the hard work you’ve put in. We believe in you!

The latest Women’s Circle meeting brought women together for an afternoon of connection and learning centered around planning for the future.

Guests enjoyed lunch while hearing valuable information on simplifying the estate planning process by Chris Wright and Tristyn Holcombe. They taught us the practical steps needed to get important affairs in order.

The Women’s Circle exists to merge time, talent, and resources among women who share a common interest in health. The mission of the Circle is to support projects that improve the health and well-being of women.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We're already looking forward to the next one!

Yesterday, we said “see you soon” to Presley, who has served as our intern at HCHF over the past year. In that time, she became everyone’s favorite assistant. She is someone who shows up with kindness, care, and a genuine willingness to help wherever she is needed.

Presley does it all! While interning at HCHF, she also juggled a nursing internship at our local hospitals and treatment center on top of being a full-time student and a member of her high school golf team! This is a reflection of her work ethic, compassion, and drive for helping others in every space she steps into.

We are grateful she chose to spend part of her journey with us, and we are cheering her on as she begins her next adventure at the University of Arkansas in the fall! We know Presley will do great things and make a positive impact everywhere she goes.

2015 us would be emotional about this one!

This is the Cancer Survivorship Center Powered by 24 Hours in the Canyon staff and friends in 2015, scissors in hand, ready to cut the ribbon for the new Cancer Survivorship Center.

And 10 years later, in 2025, we cut another ribbon.

Today, the Survivorship Center carries on the same mission: a belief that cancer survivors deserve support beyond treatment. They deserve a place to heal, grow stronger, and find community, all free of charge.

What began with the hope of helping survivors has grown into walking alongside people from the moment of diagnosis and for every chapter after.

All of this is possible because of you. Thank you for your gifts that help local cancer survivors every day.

Friends, save the date, you're not going to want to miss this one!

Women's Circle is gathering on May 21st at 12 noon in the Skyline Room and we've got something special planned. Chris Wright and Tristyn Holcombe are joining us to talk about something every woman in this room needs to hear; 𝗚𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝘄: 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. Chris has been practicing estate planning, probate, and elder law since 1996 and Tristyn brings that same expertise with a fresh perspective as an Amarillo attorney and partner at Wright Wilmarth Byrd & Holcombe. Together they're going to make an important topic feel completely approachable.

If you've been putting off getting your affairs in order (and most of us have) this is the afternoon that changes that.

If you've been thinking about joining Women's Circle, this is the gathering you've been waiting for. We come together to connect, to give, and to make a difference in women's health across the Panhandle one conversation and one new friendship at a time.

Come sit with us. We've been saving you a seat.
