On this month's episode of the Well-Being Connector Podcast, host Roy Reid, APR, sat down with Herb Schumm, MD, MBA, of Schumm Associates to discuss how organizations can develop their well-being strategy with little to no financial investment.

While financial investment is critical over time to growing the well-being and engagement of your care team, no organization is locked out of making the first leap. Leveraging existing resources and relationships can lead to the conversations your team needs to grow a systemwide approach to well-being.

Join the Coalition this week in recognizing all of our incredible PAs for ! PAs are a critical role of clinical care, and our care teams wouldn't be the same without them. The Coalition is proud to uplift PAs and the tireless work they've devoted to lasting wholeness in medicine. As challenges arise with physician shortages, we advocate for giving PAs a larger stake in the decision-making process alongside their physician and nurse practitioner counterparts, as the collaboration from all members of the care team are crucial in maintaining the well-being of both the patients and those that treat them.

Celebrate the progress and impact of PAs in your system and learn more about the history of National PA Week below.

Today is the start of National APP Week! This year’s theme is “The Pulse of Progress: APPs Powering Tomorrow.”

As an aging population and global health trends have contributed to a shortage in physician caregivers, APPs have become integrated more into both primary and specialty care. For the betterment of all our patients, the Coalition is honored to support a healthcare system that treats both physicians and APPs with dignity and respect. As we navigate tough conversations and changing perceptions of APPs delivering patient care, we will continue to support the collaboration and progress of physicians and APPs working together to power tomorrow.

The Coalition for Physician & APP Well-Being honors National Physician Su***de Awareness (NPSA) Day, a system-wide effort to shift attention to the tangible consequences of burnout, depression, moral injury, and suicidal ideation in our clinical caregivers. These things are not meant to be dealt with alone, nor should our response to them be when it is too late to make meaningful change in the well-being of our physicians and APPs lives.

As an Supporting Organization, the Coalition is honored to take action to prevent physician and APP su***de by sharing materials that improve well-being and foster wholeness, including su***de prevention resources, tips for starting important conversations about mental health, a crisis management plan, and more.

NPSA Day is a reminder and call to action. It’s a time to talk – and to act – so our physicians' and APPs' struggles don’t become mental health emergencies. Prevention begins with learning the signs, starting the conversations, removing intrusive mental health questions and sharing the resources that can help those in distress seek mental health care. National Physician Su***de Awareness Day is an annual event that takes place on September 17, with a mission to break down the culture of silence around mental health of our healthcare professionals.

September is ***dePreventionMonth.

As an organization dedicated to the well-being and fulfillment of clinical caregivers, this time is particularly important to us. Every person deserves to live a wholly fulfilled life, where their personal and professional needs are both met and they are able to flourish.

We must break down barriers to seeking mental health care for all, especially those who may be asked to deliver it but may feel stigmatized to seek it. As a Coalition, we will continue to advocate for wholeness and access to the care every person needs to thrive.
