Veteran-Founded | Hero Support 🇺🇸
Lowering suicide rates of our brave Veterans, Active-Duty Military,
and First Responders with the healing power of horses.

⭐️ 2024 California Non-Profit of the Year ⭐️ Our Mission is to combat the suicide rates of Veterans, Active Duty Military and First Responders and to promote mental health wellness and healing to these Heroes and their families through equin

e assisted learning and activities. Veterans, Active Duty Military, First Responders and their families that have been diagnosed with or are experiencing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress (PTSD), anxiety, depression, job-related stress, and/or traumatic brain injuries are partnered with a horse through their healing journey. We embrace all humans and horses that walk through our gate as family, with respect and compassion. We encourage all of our volunteers and heroes to continue learning about themselves, others, and horsemanship. We lift one another up and don’t break anyone down. We support each human and horse in their journey to become the best version of themselves, living a life of purpose and freedom. The Saddles In Service program offers Active Duty Military, Veterans, and First Responders the unique opportunity to explore their own healing alongside a rescue horse. Many men and women experience different stressors throughout their service to our Nation and communities. It is our goal to assist Heroes in their process of working through these stressors. Why our program? Many of these Heroes experience daily stressors throughout their service to our communities. We offer a place to reset from these daily stressors. We created this program to show our Heroes that they are not alone in their journey. Our program is a 7 phase program individually tailored to our Heroes needs, competence, and availability.

1. Horse psychology & physiology
2. Grooming and horse care
3. Groundwork to establish a relationship with your horse
4. Riding in a controlled environment (round pen and arena)
5. Trail Riding
6. Advanced cowboy skills (i.e. roping, cattle work, and challenge courses)
7. Wyoming Cowboy Experience

What actually IS equine-assisted learning? Horses are prey animals who are exquisitely tuned in to human emotion, they mirror what we're feeling before we even say a word. For a veteran or first responder carrying invisible wounds, that kind of honest, judgment-free connection can open doors that talk therapy alone sometimes can't reach. That's the science behind our herd's work.

Equine-assisted learning allows heroes to build trust, connection, and confidence.

Behind the Scenes: Farrier Day at Saddles In Service!

Today a few of our horses got some much-needed hoof care from our farrier. Regular trims aren't just cosmetic; they're essential for our horses' soundness, balance, and comfort. Overgrown or neglected hooves can lead to pain, lameness, and serious long-term health issues, so consistent farrier visits are one of the most important parts of keeping our herd healthy and ready to serve.

Care like this comes at a cost, and that's where you come in! You can help cover hoof care, feed, and other essentials for our horses through our Sponsor a Horse program. Every donation makes a direct difference in their well-being.

Check out our recent feature in Fabulous California as the Nonprofit of the Month ⭐️

Our biggest challenge: (we need your help) We want to reach every hero who needs us. The program is free to heroes, the waitlist is long, and this is an ongoing need. Every hero has a name and funding the next spot is what helps turn heroes in waiting into heroes in healing.

The Bond That Heals

At Saddles In Service, every hero is paired with a wrangler and a horse. Our program follows natural horsemanship, partnering each hero with a wrangler and a horse; adding new challenges as they progress on their journey to healing.

Wranglers teach more than riding. They teach heroes to read a horse's body language, build trust, and stay present; skills that carry straight into healing from PTS and the weight of service. Working with horses helps reorient the nervous system, building awareness of what heroes are feeling and projecting.

Horses don't care about rank or what happened overseas or in the communities. They respond to honesty and calm; and our wranglers help each hero find that in themselves again.

Support Heroes healing through horses by donating to our horsemanship program, the program is offered at no-cost to participants but is only made possible through donations - Donations can be made at: https://saddlesinservice.org/donations-3/ 💙
