EAGLE SCOUT LEGEND: STEVEN SPIELBERG—Long before Steven Spielberg became one of the most influential filmmakers in history, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

His journey behind the camera even has roots in Scouting. While working toward the Photography merit badge, a young Spielberg created an 8mm film, helping spark a lifelong passion for visual storytelling.

From Jaws and E.T. to Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List, Spielberg went on to shape generations of filmmaking. In 1989, he was also recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

His story is a reminder that the skills, interests, and confidence developed through Scouting can become the foundation for extraordinary things.

Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.

Joan Marie Panuska Obituary
Joan Marie Panuska, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 24, 2026. Joan was born on December 19, 1943 to Henry and Caroline Thompson in East Orange. Joan has resided in Brick for 25 years with her late husband Ronald. Joan and Ron were married on October 12, 1974 until his passing in 2024.

Joan was also a volunteer first aid squad member in West Orange, where she met Ron. Joan and her husband were also volunteers with the Boy Scouts West Orange Troop 2 for many years, Joan & Ron were avid campers, and she and Ron were founders of the “Wagon Masters” camping club along with many of their camping friends and families. Joan was a devout Presbyterian and was a dedicated parishioner of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Joan spent many years volunteering at the Point Pleasant Elks alongside Ron. She was also an animal lover, having been known to have pets of all kinds from dogs to a monkey in her younger years. Above all else, Joan loved her family. She and her husband Ron were inseparable, and she was a doting and caring Sister and Aunt to many family members.
Joan is predeceased by her parents Henry and Caroline Thompson; adored husband Ronald Panuska; brother Henry Thompson; twin sister Caroline Reister; Brothers-In-Law Albert Michaels and Ronald Reister; as well as her beloved dogs Winston, Lucky and Roscoe.
Joan is survived by her sister Nancy Michaels; 42 Nieces and Nephews; and 11 Great Nieces and Nephews. She made an impact on all those who were lucky enough to know her, and her loss will be felt by many; she is now resting in peace with her beloved Ronny and their family of pets.

A visitation will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home in Brick on Monday June 29th, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 30th, 2026 at 11am at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church on Forman Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joan’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital and the ASPCA in honor of her life-long adoration for the wellbeing and care of animals.

$3 Hotdogs at the Street Fair 🌭

The Cub Scouts of Pack 110 will be selling delicious hotdogs right across from the CVS! Top them with ketchup, mustard, or relish, or upgrade to premium toppings including chili, cheese, and sauerkraut!

We will also be selling hand-spun cotton candy, fresh-popped popcorn, giant pickles on a stick, and some other surprise treats.

Every dollar goes to helping us plan activities like camping, archery, science, and so much more!
