This Saturday, May 9 — Troop 2 is hosting a free outdoor open house at Redwood Elementary School, 9:00–11:30 AM. No registration. No cost. Just show up.
Our Scouts will be running a full model campsite you can walk through anytime during the morning:
🏕️ A real tent setup and sleeping area
🍳 Live camp cooking demo
🧭 Map and compass navigation station
🪢 Knot tying challenge
🎒 Gear display and first aid
📸 Adventure photo wall
This is a genuine look at what Scouting looks like in practice — not a slideshow, not a table with brochures. Come see it for yourself.
Open to boys and girls ages 10–17. Bring the kids. Bring a neighbor. Walk in anytime between 9:00 and 11:30.
Any family that joins Troop 2 by May 16 is eligible for our whitewater rafting trip May 29–31. First meeting is always free.

Last week our Scouts earned their Nuclear Science merit badge — with a little help from an actual nuclear scientist and former U.S. Navy officer. Real credentials, real knowledge, real Scouts asking real questions. This is the kind of experience Troop 2 has been delivering for 110 years in West Orange. The incoming Chair of Scouting America is a local professional with a distinguished resume. He makes clear how scout skills learned in middle school years powered him through difficult times. The article profiling him also gives a layered view of the scouting movement over the last few decades and how we’re positioned to serve more youth and families going forward.

"The next chairman of the organization formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America is a Jewish lawyer from Hoboken.

That’s a really big deal. Scouting America, as BSA now is called, is a 115-year-old group that includes about a million scouts, some of them girls. Its goals, as the Scouts Law up on its website announces, are earnest, positive, straightforward, far-reaching, and old-fashioned."

A Scout is clean, and now downtown West Orange is too! Our scouts helped with a litter pickup today with the WO St. Patrick Day parade organizers so that our downtown sparkles for next weeks parade! See you Sunday 3/15 at the parade! West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade Group.
