Join us on June 15 when Dr. MaryBeth Allison explores the experiences of Union and Confederate POWs through their letters, diaries and memoirs. Discover how faith, purpose, community and resilience helped prisoners endure captivity and find hope amid hardship.

Thank you to Evan Portman for returning to the round table to present “A Question of Conscience: St. Vincent In the Civil War.” Evan explored the impact the war had on the small college, the role of its monks within the armies and how the conflict divided students between north and south.

Join us Monday, May 18, when Evan Portman returns to present “A Question of Conscience: St. Vincent In the Civil War,” exploring how the War divided one of Westmoreland County’s small monastic communities, the Saint Vincent Benedictine Abbey. As Americans chose sides in the struggle over slavery, so did the monks and students of Saint Vincent.

Many thanks to Allison Caveglia Barash and the many volunteers for bringing back Civil War Jeopardy! Though the snow kept some members home, we still had a great turnout and a very spirited game. A total of 12 members participated, with the winning team receiving a gift card and certificate.
