On 4-5 December, Coalescion facilitated a two-day exchange on “Enhancing Regional Cooperation and Security: Strengthening Cross-Border Control and Compliance in Defense and Strategic Trade”, in Belgrade, Serbia. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, Export Control and Related Border Security Program (ISN/EXBS), this regional engagement coalesced representatives from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and North Macedonia to discuss the convergence of strategic defense trade controls and sanctions compliance to identify where national processes or practices and regional cohesion and cooperation could be strengthened. Case study analyses, roundtable discussions, and Tabletop Exercises (TTXs) created conditions for essential perspective sharing, information exchange, and co-solutioning against gaps.
Participant expertise spanned law enforcement, border security, and strategic and defense trade regulatory oversight. Collectively, these roles covered the broad spectrum of skills necessary for maintaining public safety, national security, effective governance, and regulatory compliance across borders and within jurisdictions. Thank you to all our participants for making the most of this forum by actively collaborating, identifying areas of shared priority, providing ideas for advancing progress, and engaging in meaningful networking to build community. We look forward to continued engagement with our amazing partners in the Western Balkans!
