The Link Center Featured Resource: People experiencing altered brain functioning—whether developmental (I/DD, autism) or acquired (brain injury) — face a higher prevalence of co-occurring behavioral and physical health issues. Research indicates these people respond well to standard evidence-based interventions when cognitive adaptations are applied. This collection highlights specific interventions and the modifications necessary to make them accessible. During Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage you to share these tools with mental health practitioners to help close the gap in care! Find out more: https://thelinkcenter.org/resources/

NASDDDS, in partnership with ADvancing States and the National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD), is pleased to share a new infographic highlighting the essential role of Medicaid Home and Community‑Based Services (HCBS).

This resource provides clear, accessible information about how HCBS supports nearly five million Americans to live, work, and participate in their communities with the right mix of independence, support, and connection. It reflects decades of policy development, state experience, and individual choice demonstrating that community‑based services are a cornerstone of effective, person‑focused Medicaid systems.

We encourage members and partners to use and share this infographic to help ground conversations in evidence and real‑world impact. Additional resources will be shared in the weeks ahead.

Issue 12 of NASDDDS' weekly newsletter is now available.

Highlights include President Trump's FY 2027 budget request, proposing significant changes to disability-related programs, including cuts to UCEDDs and DD Projects of National Significance, restructuring ACL, increased funding for Independent Living programs, and reductions to CMS program management. The proposal largely mirrors last year's request, which Congress did not adopt, and its impact remains uncertain as separate budget reconciliation efforts move forward.

State leaders consistently point to NCI as a critical tool for understanding system performance and improving outcomes for people with IDD and their families. Valerie Huhn, Director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health, notes that “Participation in NCI-IDD has been an invaluable resource for our state. The program provides a consistent, credible picture of state service performance and outcomes, enabling informed, data-driven decision-making and more strategic use of public resources.” She adds that “by leveraging a nationally established and tested framework, we avoid the significant costs and administrative burden that would come with developing and maintaining a comparable data system independently. NCI-IDD strengthens accountability, supports continuous quality improvement, and allows us to achieve sustainably better outcomes for individuals and families in Missouri.” Find out more about NCI-IDD here: https://idd.nationalcoreindicators.org/
