Leadership New Mexico was founded in 1995 to identify current and emerging leaders throughout New Mexico, enhance their leadership skills and deepen their knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our state. Leadership New Mexico is dedicated to the development of informed leaders that understand issues, define problems, develop solutions and achieve positions of higher responsibility in New Mexico. Leadership New Mexico is nonpartisan, does not advocate for legislation of any kind, does not endorse political candidates and does not take a stand on any political or social issues. Leadership New Mexico educates participants - leaders from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors about statewide and regional issues. Leadership New Mexico is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), tax-exempt New Mexico organization. It is funded by the generous contributions of corporations, foundations and individual donors.

A local leader is not just a title or a position. It’s the willingness to listen, learn from others, bring people together, and show up when your community needs you.

Great local leaders understand that the challenges facing their communities are connected to the bigger picture. They’re willing to ask questions, consider new perspectives, and work with others to find solutions.

That’s what the Local Government Leadership Program (LGLP) is all about: strengthening leadership, expanding perspectives, and connecting public servants and community leaders from across New Mexico.

👨🏽‍💻 Leadership New Mexico is excited to offer our Lifetime Members an exclusive opportunity to go behind the scenes at Intel’s Rio Rancho facility on Thursday, November 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.!

Join us for a firsthand look at one of New Mexico’s most significant technology and manufacturing operations. The experience will include an overview of Intel’s operations, a factory-window tour, and an opportunity to engage with Intel representatives. Lunch will be provided by Leadership New Mexico.

Last Friday, LNM President Diego Espinoza had the opportunity to present Dr. Bill Pieratt with a small token of our appreciation for his service on the Leadership New Mexico Board of Directors.

If you know Dr. Pieratt, you know a thank-you gift barely scratches the surface of what he means to our organization.

A Core 2023 alumnus & Lifetime Member, Dr. Pieratt has continued to show up for LNM with the kind of enthusiasm, generosity, and genuine care for others that make this community so special. He has a way of bringing people up, making people feel welcome, and making every room a little brighter just by being himself.

That same spirit carries into his work at Burrell College of Health Sciences & the School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he and his team are helping prepare the next generation of medical professionals and address the challenges facing healthcare in New Mexico.

Bill, thank you for your friendship, your leadership, your unwavering support of LNM, and everything you do to make New Mexico a stronger place to live and lead.

For our final day in Las Cruces, Connect 2026 spent the morning with Dr. Bill Pieratt, Executive Vice President of Academic Services, Dean and Chief Academic Officer at Burrell College of Health Sciences - School of Osteopathic Medicine, alongside his team.

As a Core 2023 alumnus, Lifetime Member, and former LNM Board Member, Dr. Pieratt welcomed the class into his world, sharing an incredible overview of the challenges facing New Mexico’s healthcare industry, Burrell’s work, and its efforts to educate and prepare the next generation of medical professionals.

We then toured Burrell’s impressive facility, getting a firsthand look at the work happening right here in New Mexico to help shape the future of healthcare.

It was the perfect way to close out Session II: new perspectives and a deeper understanding of the people and organizations working to move our state forward.

Thank you to Dr. Pieratt and the entire Burrell team for such a memorable experience!

Thursday was another packed day for Connect 2026 Session II in Las Cruces, filled with new perspectives and a closer look at the people and industries shaping New Mexico.

We started the morning with a tour of Cervantes Enterprises, hosted by owner Dino Cervantes, before hearing from Leslie Cervantes about aligning personal and professional goals and leading authentically.

Then it was off to New Mexico State University for conversations about New Mexico’s industrial base, energy, and economic development with Jerry Pacheco of Border Industrial Association and GPI Inc. and Eric Montgomery of El Paso Electric, followed by a tour of NMSU’s Athletics Department.

We wrapped up the day over dinner at Chope’s Bar & Cafe, sharing good food and funny stories after another day of learning together.

From local businesses to statewide industries, Connect is giving participants a closer look at the people, places, and ideas shaping our state.

Connect 2026 Session II in Las Cruces kicked off Tuesday at New Mexico State University’s Golf Course with a golf clinic, lunch, and a golf scramble alongside LNM alumni from across the state. Great people, a little friendly competition, and the perfect way to start the week!

Wednesday took us somewhere entirely different.

At White Sands Missile Range, participants stepped outside their comfort zones with rappelling, heard directly from Garrison Commander Colonel Lueckeman and Garrison Command Sergeant Major Diaz about the mission and work happening on the range, and got a behind-the-scenes tour of operations most New Mexicans never get to see.

We wrapped up the day with a group walk to dinner at The Game Sports Bar & Grill, with plenty to talk about after a day full of firsts, challenges, and new perspectives.

The Local Government Leadership Program brings together public servants and community leaders from across New Mexico for an experience designed around the realities of public service.

Participants can expect to:

Yesterday, LNM Lifetime Members gathered bright and early for our Lifetime Member Exclusive Balloon Fiesta Breakfast, hosted in partnership with ExxonMobil at Balloon Fiesta Park.

Perfect weather gave us the chance to watch the balloons lift off over Albuquerque while enjoying breakfast, catching up with familiar faces, reconnecting with LNM classmates, and meeting new members of the LNM community.

There’s something pretty special about seeing people from different LNM classes, programs, and chapters of life come together again. The conversations may change, but the connections remain.

A huge thank you to ExxonMobil for hosting our LNM community and helping make this special morning possible. We’re grateful for your continued partnership and support of Leadership New Mexico.
