At GSRI-abq, we are committed to fostering sustainable development in rural communities through innovative projects and unwavering dedication.
Our mission is to empower individuals, protect natural resources, and promote eco-friendly practices. Created for motivation and involvement in neighborhood affairs, Grassroots Society for Rural Involvement began in Baton Rouge, La and has been actively playing a role in the City ever since. Incorporated during a time of need in Gardere, Project GSRI was launched to help those who lived there. We
formed a small group in the Fall of 1998 and incorporated in January 2005 and was active until 2011. GSRI has been on haitus since 2012, soon after the Founder's father passed away. Now, after a 2 years, Project GSRI is ready to serve once again!

GRASSROOTS UPDATE
Alive and well in the Duke City as efforts to improve the quality of life for every person in Albuquerque, NM, continue. Faith-based and non-profit GSRI upholds the principals and freedoms that so many have swept under the rug because there isn't a one-on-one constituency to actually makes a change.
It takes involvement. It takes you. Look around your home. Notice the curbing, the road striping, the condition of the landscape that is City Property. This year, 2023, we will focus on enforcing City Counsel members to address these kinds issues, once again, on a grassroots level.

GSRI has been on hiatus since 2012, soon after the Founder's father passed away. Now, after a 6 years, Project GSRI is ready to serve once again! Citizens of Albuquerque need a network of agencies and program to “clean up” the city! We need a new City Council, one that will embrace change, and not fight it. We need to support our Mayor and his cabinet, as he moves this city forward.
Consider joining Grassroots Society and help make a difference in our city. We take volunteers in our Litter Patrol, Tutoring Programs and Special Needs. Non-profit and totally run by Volunteers, we ask you to consider getting involved and help us help other and make a difference.
Outreaches and projects include: Litter Patrol, Restoring Neighborhoods, Feeding the Needy, Volunteer Services, Networking Churches, Supporting Churches and other Civic Opportunities within the Albuquerque Area, but not limited to the City.
Our Founder
Native to New Mexico, John Benjamin Montaño-Austin was born in Española in the early 60’s. Raised in Taos, in a Restaurant Family, he learned early the Art of Hospitality. In the late 70’s, John went to live with his dad’s sister in Hampton, VA and finished High School at Phoebus High, Class of ‘80. Having grown up with the Taoseños of the Class of ‘80, he shares many memories from younger days growing up in Taos. Having re-located to Hampton his Junior Year, John also shares many high school memories from Phoebus High School, Class of ‘80.
Born-again in Wyandotte, OK in 1983 , in an old-fashioned Pentecostal, Holy Ghost Revival, John pursued his Biblical Studies both in the US and abroad. In 1984 he entered Jimmy Swaggart Bible College, in Baton Rouge, LA, as one of the very first students, and completed an Associates Degree in Biblical Studies and later, in 2001, was ordained by the Reverend himself, Pastor Jimmy Swaggart in the 4th of July Campmeeting. In 1985 John studied abroad at Continental Bible College (now Seminary) in Brussels, Belgium, a ministry of the Assemblies of God Church, Springfield, MO. He also served as Singles Pastor at Gallup First Assembly of God, Gallup, NM, from 1986-87, known as “Agape Ministries”.
