We truly appreciate the support for the Fire Levy—and we also appreciate the suggestion to share exactly how those funds are used. Transparency matters, and we want our community to see the direct impact.
From 2019–2025, Fire Levy funds have helped Albright VFD improve safety, training, and emergency response across our service area.
Here’s what that looks like in real terms:
🚒 Keeping Firefighters Safe:
We’ve purchased new SCBA air packs, turnout gear, and a gear dryer—ensuring our firefighters have reliable, up-to-date protective equipment when responding to emergencies.
📚 Training Your Fire Department:
Levy funds have covered CPR, water rescue, rope rescue, fire officer training, and instructor certifications. This means when you call 911, you’re getting a trained and prepared team.
🔥 Better Equipment = Better Protection:
• Added 2,000 feet of new fire hose and foam for fire suppression
• Purchased a 4x4 fire engine (without taking on debt) to reach homes in bad weather and hard-to-access areas
• Replaced a failing fuel tank on an existing engine to keep it in service
🛠 Keeping Everything Ready to Go:
Annual pump testing, SCBA testing, insurance, and utilities ensure our station and equipment are always ready when needed.
💰 Fire Levy (last 4 yrs) of Funding Received:
2022 – $31,997
2023 – $32,676
2024 – $53,162
2025 – $56,531
Most recently, we replaced our 49-year-old mini pumper (1976 model) with a new 2025 unit. Fundraising dollars are covering the cost of the truck itself, while Fire Levy funds will help equip it with the tools needed to serve you.
🏅 Improved Fire Protection Rating:
Albright VFD recently earned an improved Public Protection Class (PPC) rating following our November 2025 survey. As of March 1st, our classification improved to 04/4X.
This rating plays an important role in how insurance companies determine fire insurance premiums. Achieving this improvement was made possible by a dedicated firefighting team, strong associate member support, and the continued investment from the County Fire Levy.
We’re not stopping there—our goal is to continue improving and work toward a PPC Class 03.
👉 What does this mean for our community?
Faster response, better coverage in rural areas, safer firefighters—and in many cases, lower fire insurance costs for homeowners.
We are committed to using every dollar responsibly and making sure it directly benefits the people we serve.
Thank you for your continued support of Albright VFD.

Preston County Fireman’s Association is seeking public support and asking the voters to vote. Yes for the renewal of our current Fire Levy. This is a renewal and not an additional levy. It would go into effect July 1, 2028 if it’s approved it’s being put on the ballot early since there will not be any elections held in Preston County in 2027. Each of the 12 Fire departments would continue to receive an equal share of the levy funds. In an effort to be responsible, stewards of taxpayer dollars while maintaining essential services and due to a slight increase in our tax base, there has been a slightly lower tax rate applied to this renewal, and if approved each year, the assessor will calculate to see if it needs lowered annually to prevent exceeding the annual cap in the levy.
