Special history program for Noble County’s 250 celebration coming to Albion on June 6th!!

The Noble County Genealogical Society and the Galloway-
Prentice Daughters of the American Revolution will present an
America 250 program open to the public.
This free event will be held Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to
noon in the Cole Room at the Noble County Public Library in
Albion.
“Patriot Stories” will feature two speakers. Historian Matt
Bennett will enlighten the public on Noble County’s two
Revolutionary War veterans, Nathaniel Prentice and Joseph
Galloway, both buried in Noble County.
Albion’s Rachel Bender will then share her story of searching
for and discovering her great-great uncle’s remains on a
random shelf in a Cincinnati cemeterys’ “unclaimed” division.
Army Major Isaac Hart now rests in Arlington National Cemetery
after fighting for more than five years in the Civil War,
thanks to Bender.

We’ve been busy!
Here’s a letter to members from our Vice President, Judy Richter, highlighting a few items:

Our group had a successful Cemetery Walk at the Swan Cemetery in June, hearing interesting stories about some of the people buried there. The weather cooperated, although a little hot, and we had 29 attending.

Trevor Tipton presented about the early local Indians at our annual dinner meeting in September. It was a well-attended event with good food from our caterer too.

And well, here we are in November already.
Our November meeting will be on the 17th at 6:00 p.m. in the Indiana Room of the Noble County Public Library, 813 E Main St. Albion.
During the meeting we will have an election of the officers. And it appears all officers have volunteered to stay on for another year. YAY!!. Also, at that meeting the program will be “Show ‘N Tell”, so members are encouraged to bring an interesting object or a story to share.

We do not meet in December, January and February, so our next meeting will be March 21, 2026, Saturday at 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Indiana Room. We will have an informal “Research Day” where members will be available to help anyone on their research.

See you on November 17

Any help would be appreciated so we can properly file them.
Thanks!

What an awesome night for everyone that attended our annual dinner this last Monday! Great fellowship, amazing dinner and a very educational program on the Indians of Noble County. Thanks to everyone that attended as well as thanks to our caterer Julie and presenter Trevor. If you missed the event, hopefully you can attend a future program - stay tuned here!

Trevor Tipton was our main event and did a wonderful job of educating us on local Indians and sharing with us his large collection of artifacts. Trevor is a retired teacher from Central Noble with a passion for history and especially the Native American life and artifacts from this area. He took us thru the history of Native Americans from thousands of years ago up thru the late 1800s. Imagine trying to take down a huge mastodon with just hand carved tools of flint & stone! His collection included arrow heads, spear heads, axes, knives, decorative pieces and even a mastodon tooth.

Here are a few of the pictures from his program. If you ever get the chance to attend one of his programs, make time for it. You will be definitely enjoy it!

Share this page with your friends and family & encourage them to follow our site. Stay tuned for more fascinating items!
