Thank you Bernadette for attending our C-PASS 2026 Conference. Hope to see you again next year!
East Greenbush Police Department
We were glad to have Bernadette Ellis of the East Greenbush Police Department with us at the C-PASS Conference — Committee on Policing and Safeguarding Schools. Bernadette, who is currently serving as a School Resource Officer at Columbia High School, spoke about the importance of school safety and reunification planning. Reunification is the structured process schools use after an emergency to safely return students to their parents or guardians. Instead of parents rushing to the school, students are moved to a designated reunification site where law enforcement and school staff verify identities and release students in a controlled, secure way.
“As a mom myself, I think it’s really important to have safety in schools and reunification, and really have everyone prepared for what could happen, how to handle it, and where to go from there.”
C-PASS supports School Resource Officers, educators, and law enforcement leaders through collaboration, training, and shared resources focused on school safety.
