Big shoutout to the volunteers from the Albany Library's teen program who made the Journeys to Albany/Paths to Belonging closing celebration so much fun. They taught people to make the little zines that were passports for the evening, helping people record the new friends they met and the ideas they shared. Library manager Blaine Wentworth (pictured in the hat) and teen librarian Paul Straghalis (not pictured) have been awesome partners in the project for more than year. Thank you!! Our closing potluck celebration last week for Journeys to Albany/Path to Belonging was so much fun. The best thing was connecting newcomers to Albany with old-timers. All those funny white stickers on our shirts were icebreaker questions we invited people to ask us. And we took home little booklets where we wrote down the names of our new friends (as someone who is bad with names I wish I had this for every event I go to!). De-installation of the exhibition is tomorrow and will be bittersweet.

Tuesday March 3 come to a talk on the history of U.S. immigration law at the Albany Library. Two great speakers--Carlotta Wright de la Cal, scholar of immigration and labor history and PhD candidate at UC Berkeley; and Ming H. Chen, Professor of Law at UC Law San Francisco. Bring your questions! What immigration restrictions were in effect when your ancestors--or you--came to the U.S.? Were they impacted by the Chinese Exclusion Act or Mexican American "repatriation" in the 1930s? Did the Hart-Celler Immigration Act of 1965 or the Immigration Act of 1990 affect your family? Talk is 6-7:30 pm at the Edith Stone Room of the library. Part of pathtobelonging.net.
