📢 Join Us Virtually for NYSCADV’s 2026 Advocacy Day – Today!

Domestic violence (DV) advocates, survivors, allies, and community members from across the state are coming together for Advocacy Day 2026 to send a clear message to lawmakers: survivors deserve access to the life-saving services they need.

Every day in New York:
🔹 More than 10,000 survivors seek domestic violence services
🔹 On average, 1,000 survivors do not receive the services they need
🔹 In 2024 alone, 1,700+ people were denied services in a single day due to lack of funding — a 64% increase from the year before

This is unacceptable. Survivors and their families deserve safety, stability, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

New York State consistently has the highest demand for domestic violence services in the country — yet years of inadequate funding have left providers stretched beyond capacity. Investing in critical, life-sustaining services ensures survivors have access to shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, prevention programming, and economic empowerment supports.

💜 We need your voice.

Today:
✔️ Reach out to your legislators
✔️ Share why funding DV services matters
✔️ Amplify survivor voices
✔️ Use our Advocacy Day Toolkit to make it easy

Survivors. Advocates. Coalition and community partners. Legislators. Community members.
We’re counting on all of you to stand up and speak out.

Together, we can ensure New York steps up for survivors.

Too often, we criticize victim behavior instead of putting the blame where it rightfully belongs: on the stalker. While safety planning and risk reduction can be practical for victims, nothing that a victim does – or does not do – makes them responsible for the stalker’s decision to stalk. https://ow.ly/ER8f50XRVL1

Stalking cases can last from one afternoon to an entire lifetime. Stalking cases are dynamic; advocates and responders should prepare for the long haul and engage in ongoing safety planning and risk assessment as circumstances may change over time. https://ow.ly/H2TJ50XRVI9

Stalkers often go to great lengths to exert power and control over their victims – including threatening and harming others that the victim cares about. For many stalking victims, the fear doesn’t stop at their personal safety. Victims with children in the home are at particular risk – learn more about navigating supervised visitation and exchange program with SPARC’s guide. https://ow.ly/I3Kv50XRVAu
