Waypoint is two weeks away, so let’s hear from the veterans who enjoy getting outside. What is the one thing that makes a camping trip better for you?

A good sleeping bag?

Coffee before anyone starts talking?

A solid camp meal?

Fishing gear?

A comfortable chair by the fire?

Good people?

For Waypoint, food is provided and some camping equipment will be available. If you already have a tent and sleeping bag, even better. The biggest things you need are transportation and yourself.

The Foxhole Project’s Waypoint Retreat is coming September 18 through 20, and registration matters because we need time to prepare for the veterans who will be joining us.

The Waypoint is intentionally small. And spots are limited. Knowing who is coming helps us plan food, equipment, campsite needs, and the practical details that make the weekend run well.

Here is what participants should know:
📅 September 18 through 20
🍽️ Food will be provided
🏕️ Some camping equipment will be available
🚙 You will need transportation to and from the retreat
🎒 If you have your own tent and sleeping bag, bring them
👥 Space is limited, so registration is required

You do not need expensive camping gear or years of outdoor experience. The biggest things you need are transportation, yourself, and a willingness to spend a few days outside with other veterans.

Waypoint is about camp coffee, shared meals, time outdoors, campfire conversations, and camaraderie without having to rush anywhere else.

Sometimes the best way to reconnect is to get away from the normal routine for a little while. Outdoors, things tend to slow down. Coffee takes longer, conversations stretch out, and meals become something people gather around. Nobody is rushing to the next appointment. That space matters.

The Foxhole Project is built around creating opportunities where veterans can spend time together through shared experiences, outdoor connection, and simple camaraderie.

Not every meaningful conversation needs a meeting room. Sometimes it happens on a trail, while cooking dinner at camp, or after dark when the fire is still going and nobody is ready to turn in yet.

That is part of what the foxhole mindset means to us: create the space, bring people together, and let community grow from there.

Campfire Social is this Friday.

As always, we will be gathering at Lucha’s Cantina for an easygoing evening with veterans, families, and community members from across the San Luis Valley.

There is no presentation.

No formal agenda.

No pressure to walk in knowing anyone.

Campfire Social is simply a place to grab some food or a drink, sit down with good people, swap stories, catch up, and meet someone new.

If you have been following The Foxhole Project but have not made it out yet, this is a good place to start.

Bring yourself.

Bring your spouse or family.

Bring a veteran buddy who has been meaning to get out of the house.

The Foxhole Project’s Waypoint Retreat is coming September 18 through 20, and we are officially opening sign-ups.

Waypoint is a few days outdoors with other veterans built around something simple: time together.

Camp coffee in the morning. Shared meals. Time outdoors. Conversations around the fire. A chance to get away from the normal routine and spend a weekend around people who understand the value of camaraderie.

Why do we need you to sign up?

Because we need to know who is coming so we can prepare.

Spots are limited, and registration helps us plan food, equipment, campsite needs, and everything else that goes into making the weekend run smoothly.

Food will be provided.

We will also have some camping equipment available for veterans who need it, so not owning a full set of gear should not automatically keep you home.

What do you really need?

Transportation to and from the retreat and yourself.

If you already have a tent and sleeping bag, even better. Bring them.

If you need some equipment, tell us when you sign up and we will work with what we have available.

You do not need to be an experienced camper. You do not need expensive outdoor gear. You just need to be willing to show up and spend a few days outside with other veterans.

📅 September 18 through 20

Three days. One camp. No pressure, no agenda-heavy retreat. The Waypoint Retreat (September 18–20) brings veterans together outdoors for campfires, shared meals, and good conversation built on real camaraderie. Unplug, reconnect, and spend a weekend around people who get it.

There is something different about being around people who understand the experience without needing the whole backstory.

You can sit down, talk about where you served, what you are doing now, or absolutely nothing military at all.

That is the kind of community The Foxhole Project is working to build.

A place where veterans and families can keep making new memories together after service.

Sometimes that happens around a campfire.

Sometimes over food at Campfire Social.

Sometimes on a trail, during a service project, or over the first cup of coffee in the morning.

The activity is not the point.

The people are.

Strong veteran community comes from having places to keep showing up, reconnecting with familiar faces, and welcoming new ones into the circle.

That is the foxhole mindset.

If you had three days outdoors with no work schedule and nowhere you had to be, what would you want to spend your time doing?

Fishing?

Hiking?

Cooking around camp?

Sitting around the fire telling stories?

Exploring back roads?

Doing absolutely nothing before the second cup of coffee?

Drop your answer in the comments.

There is no wrong way to enjoy time outside, and half the fun of a good trip is seeing what everyone brings to it.

A few days outdoors can create a lot of room for good conversation.

The Waypoint Retreat is coming September 18 through 20.

Waypoint is being built around the same things that guide The Foxhole Project throughout the year: shared experience, time outdoors, camaraderie, and veterans spending time with people who understand.

Think camp coffee in the morning.

Time outside during the day.

Meals and conversations together.

A fire at night with nowhere else everyone needs to rush off to.

This is not about packing a weekend with programming.

It is about creating the space for veterans to step away from the normal routine, spend time outdoors, and build community together.

📅 September 18 through 20

We will be sharing more information about Waypoint as we get closer.

For now, save the dates and follow The Foxhole Project for updates.
