The Akron Yoga Project is centered around connecting the city of Akron, and its surrounding neighborhoods, to yoga, all while benefiting various nonprofits based in NE Ohio. These yoga classes are 100% donation based and a minimum of 50% of donations collected, per class, will be donated to a designated nonprofit that works within or around the Akron area. Where are the yoga classes held? The Akro
n Yoga Project is a studio without walls. Akron has a wealth of beautiful locations where the benefits of yoga can be practiced. One day a class might be held on the beach of Portage Lakes and the next class on the grass of Lock 3. Classes might even be held on the grounds of the designated organization it strives to raise funds for, such as a museum or the zoo. Variety is the spice of life, so, they could be where ever we feel inspired to take our yogis! You can check this blog, follow us on Facebook and Twitter, or join our mailing list to see where we will be each week and which organization we are raising money for! Why don’t you have a studio? A studio requires a lot of finances to operate. If we had a studio we wouldn’t be able to contribute as much, if any, money to our organizations because it would all go towards paying rent and electric and other yucky expenses what would steer us away from our mission. So, we choose to utilize that vast amount of beautiful locations that the Akron area has to offer! Nature has so much to offer us and by using a park or beach as our “studio” we can offer a unique element to your practice. Maybe, you will find yourself practicing next to art sculptures or paintings! We like to keep things exciting and ever evolving so we will change up the experience by changing locations rather than having one stationary space. However, are not ruling out ever opening a stationary location, but for now we see no need. What is donation based yoga? A donation is the sacred act of giving. There is no right or wrong amount so let your heart and your personal financial situation be your guide. If you are unable to make a donation in monetary form, please talk to a teacher-there are many other options! The Akron Yoga Projects feels that yoga should be accessible to EVERYONE regardless of ones financial situation. Our teacher’s sole purpose is to spread their love of yoga and to help make their community a better place. Where do my donations go? The Akron Yoga Project is committed to making Akron and NE Ohio a better place through donation based classes. The donations collected per class will be divided a minimum of 50/50 between the teacher and the designated organization. HOWEVER, it is 100% up to the teacher if they would like to contribute more of THEIR profits to said organization. If an overwhelming amount of donations are raised the teacher might only wish to take 25% or 10%, or nothing at all! We do value our teachers and acknowledge that their time is also precious and valuable and that groceries cost the same for everyone. Therefore, we require the teacher to take no more than 50%. As with all of our yogis, each teacher’s financial situation varies and will be left up to them if they would like to take a smaller split. What style of yoga can I expect to practice when attending a class? In general our classes will be a variation of vinyasa/flow. Our teachers have specific instruction to design their classes so that they are accessible to all levels of yogis. A beginner will feel comfortable practicing right along side a more advanced yogi, who is also able to receive a more challenging class if they so desire. How do I get started?! Simply come to a class! It’s best to arrive 10 minutes early to get situated. Who are your teachers? All of the teachers with The Akron Yoga Project have been hand selected to promote the mission and vision of our organization. All teacher are qualified with either a formal training certification or years of teaching experience that rival current traditional certification programs. I am involved with a group/nonprofit that I would like to have sponsored by The Akron Yoga Project. How can my organization be sponsored by your classes? Simply email us at [email protected] with your organization name and contact information and we will respond with further instructions and possibly request more information on your group/nonprofit.
