Great Akron Scarecrow Festival

Join us the third Saturday each September for the annual Great Akron Scarecrow Festival.

The Great Akron Scarecrow Festival & Contest takes place in the Akron City Park the third Saturday of September. The family friendly event features great food, shopping, kids activities, and the scarecrow decorating contest. The event is organized by the Akron GFWC/Iowa Friendship and Service Club and all proceeds are used to support community projects.

Friendship & Service Club members presented a $900 donation to the Akron-Westfield National History Day program to help toward expenses of students who qualified for the national competition in Washington, DC, next month.

NHD students volunteer at carnival games, face painting and more at the Scarecrow Festival - we appreciate their help each year and wish them the best of luck at Nationals!

Want to support AW NHD students, too? Donations can be dropped off at the school or mailed to the AW NHD program at 850 Kerr Drive, Akron IA 51001.

Members of the GFWC/Iowa Akron Friendship & Service Club hosted the second annual garden party to recognize girls in Akron-Westfield’s senior class. While the weather didn’t cooperate for an outdoor event this year, the girls and their guests made floral bouquets, enjoyed refreshments and took photos. Club members shared advice and thanked attendees for their volunteerism and community spirit during their time at Akron-Westfield.

Congratulations to the class of 2026 and best wishes in your education and career plans. We can’t wait to see you do amazing things!

We are proud to support several local organizations with proceeds from the 2025 Great Akron Scarecrow Festival! Checks were recently presented to Akron Area Museum, Akron Iowa Public Library, Akron Care Center, and Akron Opera House for the children's theater production.

We're proud to announce another round of donations from proceeds of the 2025 Great Akron Scarecrow Festival:

Akron Children's Center - $500 for hallway painting and mural

Akron Park Board - $1,500 for the next phase of the Akron Trails system

Akron Public Library - $150 for supplies for story times, Art Club, Crafters Cove and Kids Club programming

Thank you to all these organizations for their great work in our community!

We are excited to announce the first round of donations from the proceeds of the 2025 Great Akron Scarecrow Festival!

Friendship & Service Club members presented checks to members of Akron-Westfield dance team, FFA, football team, music department, art department and National History Day program.

Dozens of students volunteer at the event each year helping with carnival games, face painting, glitter tattoos, BINGO and more. The Scarecrow Festival wouldn't be possible without their help and we appreciate all the support from coaches, administration and parents that make it possible!
