Great Akron Scarecrow Festival

Join us the third Saturday each September for the annual Great Akron Scarecrow Festival.

The Great Akron Scarecrow Festival & Contest takes place in the Akron City Park the third Saturday of September. The family friendly event features great food, shopping, kids activities, and the scarecrow decorating contest. The event is organized by the Akron GFWC/Iowa Friendship and Service Club and all proceeds are used to support community projects.

September is here, which means the Scarecrow Festival is just around the corner! What are you looking forward to at this year’s festival?

Shopping, food, crafts, scarecrows and so many kids' activities - there will be something for everyone at the 26th annual festival on Saturday, September 19. See you then!

Just three more weeks! We are excited for another year of fabulous vendors at this year’s festival! More than 70 vendors are registered this year with a wide variety of crafts, branded items, clothing, food and much, much more!

Vendors, please post photos of your items or share what you will be bringing in comments. We can't wait to see everyone in the Akron City Park on Saturday, Sept. 19!

Have you heard? The petting zoo will return to this year's Scarecrow Festival! And, it will continue to be free to all festival goers thanks to a generous sponsorship from Peoples Bank.

We’re in the top 5 reasons to attend the 2026 Great Akron Scarecrow Festival! This one is easy: so much fun for kids!

Carnival games, face painting, glitter tattoos, kiddie train and the return of the petting zoo! Activities require tickets, but we do our best to keep prices affordable.

Comment with your family’s favorite to be entered to win $10 in kids activity tickets. We'll draw a winner on Wednesday, August 19.

We're just over a month away from the 2026 Great Akron Scarecrow Festival and vendor spaces are nearly full! We love seeing the park full of unique shopping opportunities - if you are interested in participating this year, visit our website (link in comments) and register today. We'll start a waiting list when our 80 spaces are full.

Need a project to keep kids busy these last days before school starts? Get started on your 2026 scarecrow contest entry! Check out the past year winner photos archived on our website (link in comments) and don’t forget to stop by Akron’s own Helping Hands Thrift Shop for clothes and accessories you will need!

There are 20 ways to win a total of $1,000 in cash prizes! No pre-registration required, just bring your entry to the festival before 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19!

Reason number 6 to attend this year’s festival? BINGO will return! Games will be held from 10am to 1pm, wrapping up with a blackout game at 1pm. Huge thank you to Akron-Westfield FFA members for their help in running BINGO games.

Seven weeks to go! The first stop on your Scarecrow Festival list should be the Nature’s Harvest stand. Located in the shelter house close to Akron Children’s Center, the stand is packed full of baked goods, crafts and produce provided by Friendship & Service club members.

The Best Five Days of Summer kick off today!! Best of luck to all Akron-Westfield FFA and Johnson Juniors 4-H members with their projects and livestock this week. We appreciate these students' help with BINGO, carnival games, face painting, glitter tattoos and so much more at the Scarecrow Festival each year.
