MK Safety Net

MK Safety Net Since 1999, MK Safety Net has been a resource for MKs who experienced abuse in mission settings.

WHO WE ARE:

The roots of MK Safety Net go back to 1995 when six MKs went public about the abuse they had experienced at their missionary boarding school in Guinea, West Africa. Their journey to that point and the events that unfolded afterward led to other MKs looking to them for understanding and encouragement on their journeys of disclosing their abuse and holding their mission boards accountab

le. As a result, MK Safety Net was established in 1999 and was incorporated as a 501c3 non-profit organization in 2003. MK Safety Net understands the unique challenges MKs face in recovering from abuse due to factors related to growing up overseas, especially the issues of identity and belonging. Our unpaid, all-volunteer board maintains a website where MKs can find useful resources. MKSN oversees several social media sites where MKs can share their stories and where they can keep informed of developments related to abuse in mission settings. MKSN also holds gatherings and conferences across the country where MKs can share with others whose life experiences mirror their own. MK Safety Net has no ties to any mission or religious organization. We respect the diversity of paths to wholeness that MK abuse survivors find helpful, including both secular and various religious modalities of healing. It takes a lot of courage to be a soldier and even more to be a Green Beret. It takes a different kind of courage to candidly describe the forces - both good and bad - that shaped you into the man you are. In Gray Man, David Carmichael exemplifies both.

David’s memoir will take you to far-off places and into fascinating scenarios. More than that, it will inspire. I highly recommend this book, especially to those who understand how a childhood overseas impacts you for a lifetime.

(Dianne Couts' review of the book)

Some lives are lived quietly. In , a decorated Green Beret and accomplished businessman tells the extraordinary story of a life shaped far from the spotlight. From growing up along the Niger River near the fabled city of Timbuktu—on the edge of the Sahara Desert and hundreds of miles from mod...

Happy Friday! Wherever you are in the world today, we hope that you are well.

We wanted to share another incredible in-person opportunity to watch "Ben Between Africa." It will be screened at the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival in Morgan Hills, California, on Thursday, April 9 at 8:00 PM. Ari would love to fill the place with MKs and TCKs. Even if you're not able to go, would you share this on your page or to other groups you think might be interested? The film's website is the best place to find more information. https://pjiff.org/
