7 DAYS TO GO — 20 Years of Second Chances!

Twenty years ago, Equine Rescue of Aiken began with a simple belief: horses deserve a second chance.

Since then, over 1,800 horses have come through our gates — neglected horses needing healing, retired racehorses looking for new careers, and horses whose owners simply wanted to make sure they landed somewhere safe.

Next Saturday, you are invited to our Open House and our 20th Anniversary Celebration- come see how far we’ve come.

For years, Aiken Saddlery has been far more than a local business to Equine Rescue of Aiken. They have been a trusted partner, a generous supporter, and an important part of our success.

They consistently help us—and so many others in our community—get the supplies needed to care for our farms and animals at reasonable prices. When customers ask for something they don’t carry, they listen and are always willing to consider adding new products to their inventory.

But their commitment goes well beyond the walls of their store. Aiken Saddlery supports Rescue fundraising events, local horse shows, Triple Crown events, and countless other community activities. Their owners and employees are deeply invested in Aiken, serving on nonprofit boards, volunteering their time, and continually finding ways to give back.

For Equine Rescue of Aiken, their support has had a direct impact on our ability to care for our horses and continue the programs and services we provide to our community.

We are incredibly grateful to have a business like Aiken Saddlery in our corner. Thank you for believing in our mission, supporting our horses, and—most of all—caring so deeply about the community we all call home.

Congratulations, Bentley! A Well-Deserved Life of R&R!

Bentley has officially found his forever home, and his new career may be his best one yet — rest and relaxation!

No big job ahead for this handsome boy. Just green pastures, good care, plenty of love, and the chance to simply enjoy being a horse.

Congratulations to Bentley and his wonderful new family. We wish you many happy, peaceful years together.

Who says you have to be big to make a BIG difference? Shannon Gaines (our Manager) and her granddaughter were on feeding duty, proving that our volunteers really do come in all sizes!

Take me home Tuesday horse of week is Starr of Jericho.

Starr of Jericho is a 2023 15.2H Off the Track chestnut thoroughbred gelding. He is a cute mover and ready for any discipline. His legs are good and he is sane and sound. He is right off the track so very green but good minded and a quick learner as. He is easy to work around.

I cannot say enough good things about this Gelding . He is absolutely going to be someone’s heart horse. He has been on a trail ride and did amazing. He is a quick learner. Great for farrier, tacking up, stands tied quietly, bathes and anything else you want to do with him. We have not found anything we don’t like about this sweet boy.

The Finish Line Was Just the Beginning for Instream!

We’re thrilled to announce that Instream has been adopted! This beautiful, retired racehorse is beginning an exciting new chapter and will be training for her second career as a hunter/jumper. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her!

A heartfelt thank you to Instream’s previous owners for retiring her responsibly and giving her the opportunity to find a new purpose beyond the racetrack.

We are also incredibly grateful to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) for supporting our program and helping us transition retired racehorses into safe, successful second careers.

From the racetrack to a new career and a loving home—this is what a second chance looks like.

Take me home Tuesday horse of the week

Whisper is a rescue favorite. He is about 20 years old and came in rough shape and extremely underweight. He is finally putting on weight, but we’d still like to see him put some more on.

He needs a soft landing with someone that is willing to keep working on his weight and will provide him with the asthma medicine he needs during the hot months.

He is amazing to work around in, loves getting baths and braids. He needs some work walking around in the halter because he will pull you towards the grass that he likes to eat. He has a particular weed/grass that he looks for.
