Adrian’s Community Academy returns this year, consisting of a 10-week course, on Wednesday evenings. The course will run from September 4, 2024, through November 6, 2024, with each session taking place from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. The sessions will primarily take place at the Adrian City Chambers Building, at 159 E. Maumee St, with some meetings taking place at other City facilities such as the Fire Department, Waste/Water treatment plant, and Parks Department.

Each session will feature a different department of the City, with presentations by department heads and staff members about how each department operates, how decisions are made, and how funds are allocated.

The idea for the Academy came from Commissioner Mary Roberts, with the support from the other Commissioners and the City Administrator, Commissioner Roberts meets with the City’s department heads to review the goals of the Academy each year. Commissioner Roberts notes, “I contacted the MML (Michigan Municipal League), and met with city leaders from Troy, MI, Midland, MI, and Toledo, OH, to develop the model that we are using in Adrian. Those communities have been offering Academies for many years and have seen improved communication and involvement from their residents, and that is that goal for the City of Adrian also.”

The Academy is free of charge, and space is limited to 25 city residents.

Although the City wishes that everyone who applies can attend the Academy, communities have found that keeping the participant number to a smaller group makes for better communication and participation.

Applications are being accepted now on the city website and will be accepted until August 1, 2024. Once the applications have been reviewed, applicants will be contacted regarding their acceptance to the Academy.

For questions about the Adrian Community Academy, please contact Commissioner Mary Roberts at [email protected].

Alright Question #1 for the group! This was posted in the "What's going on in Adrian" page. And is a great question! But I wanna know, what kind of events would we love to see/ attend at the Lenawee Fairgrounds??? No wrong answers! I want any and all ideas, brainstorming is at its finest when there are no holds on participation!

Hello!!! In addition to the general description for this page, a few follow up notes!

- This group was made due to the multitude of times that the sentence, "but how do we even get young people to come and stay in Adrian???". I don't think I'm the best person to answer that as I have very different hobbies than the average 26 yr old. So I want ANY and ALL opinions and feedback from anyone between the ages of 18- 40 on what we like to do! On what we don't like doing. On why we left Adrian. On what we would need to see in the City to come and participate!

Thanks for all your help!
