At the Horticulture Business Linkage Forum for avocado and banana farmers held at Rawinji Chief’s Camp in Oyugis, stakeholders shared valuable insights on building resilient and profitable farming enterprises.

As noted, successful farming today goes beyond production; it requires access to information, crop insurance, value addition, diversification, collective action, and strong market connections.

Farmers who stay informed about weather patterns, market trends, financing opportunities, and modern farming practices are better positioned to make sound decisions and improve their returns.

Furthermore, diversifying farm enterprises can help reduce risks associated with climate change, pests, diseases, and market fluctuations while creating multiple sources of income. Equally important is crop insurance, which offers a safety net against unexpected losses and helps farmers recover more quickly from production shocks.

At Creats International, we continue to support farming communities by promoting knowledge sharing, strengthening market linkages, and empowering farmers with the skills and information needed to build resilient and sustainable agricultural enterprises.

We are pleased to announce that we have officially received maize hybrid seeds from CIMMYT for commercial release. This new maize variety is early-maturing, drought-tolerant, and high-yielding, making it well-suited for smallholder farming systems and changing climate conditions.

Once released to the market, the variety is expected to help smallholder farmers increase productivity, improve profitability, and strengthen community resilience.

We look forward to keeping you updated as we advance through field trials and prepare for market release.

Last week, leaders of Community-Based Organizations within the Kasipul constituency, Homa Bay County, came together in one space, driven by a shared passion to serve the most vulnerable in our communities.

Organizations working on a range of issues, including supporting teen mothers, tackling addiction, advancing agriculture, climate action, and youth empowerment, were represented.

The conversation centered on how we can walk this journey together through partnerships, shared learning, and collective action.

Recognizing that no single organization can fully address the complex needs within our communities alone. Moments like this highlight the growing need to build stronger linkages among like-minded actors to scale impact, unlock opportunities, and create sustainable change.

"Where will we dry it?" This is a question we always get from our farmers every planting season.

Harvest season is coming when farmers will finally see the fruit of their labor. But with the joy comes a new challenge: post-harvest handling. Many rural farmers struggle to properly dry and store their crops, risking losses that could have been avoided with the right materials.

Too often, grains are spread on the floor, stones, or worn-out mats. Practices that risk contamination, pest attacks, and even total loss. Without proper drying materials, the effort of an entire season can be undone in just a few days. This is the reality for many farmers who are left with few options and little guidance.

During our past Agri Expo held on February 2026, farmers discovered practical solutions like quality drying tarpaulins. These are tools that not only protect crops from pests, dirt, and moisture, but also ensure that the harvest is market-ready and profitable.

Through our continued efforts, we are working to ensure that farmers not only grow their crops successfully but also handle them safely after harvest. By improving access to proper drying materials and sharing practical knowledge, we are helping farmers turn their hard work into secure, high-quality yields.
