13 Truckloads of Firewood Funded!

We are not even to the middle of the month and we are already at 45% of our goal for firewood for our neighbors in Kolentsi, Ukraine!

Daily, Russia is hitting infrastructure in Ukraine. They are bombing power grids, gas lines and doing everything in their power to make sure that Ukrainians suffer this upcoming winter. For our neighbors in Kolentsi, they mostly rely on wood burning stoves for both heating and cooking, so they are in a better position than those in the cities. Yet, at the same time, the cost of firewood has increased drastically.

This winter, we want to ensure that our neighbors in Kolentsi are warm and safe this winter! Will you partner with us to make that possible?

WINTER IS COMING...HELP IS NEEDED NOW FOR WIDOWS & FAMILIES....

In recent communication with our ministry team and friends in Kolentsi and Kyiv, they share stories of nonstop attacks. Russia is bombing food warehouses, power stations, hospitals, apartment buildings...anything they can hit! For almost five years, Ukraine has been under attack, but these last few weeks have been some of the worst since the early days of the war.

Due to the ongoing war, firewood has become very expensive and unaffordable for many in Kolentsi, our village. Before the war, firewood cost about $50 a truckload and the average widow or pensioner received about $30 a month as a pension from the government. So, it would take 2 months of their pension to buy firewood. Many would also walk through the forrest with carts and pick up whatever dead branches they could find throughout the year.

The cost of firewood, like everything else, has been rising annually since the war started. There are several contributing factors - mined forests, less men to harvest the trees and deliver it, etc. Right now, a truckload of firewood costs $350. That is equal to almost an entire years pension for an elderly individual. Jeremiah's Hope wants to help our neighbors and bless them with firewood for the fourth winter since this war started...and we need YOUR help!

3 TRUCKS OF FIREWOOD - THANK YOU!

To those of you who have already donated...thank you! We have enough funds raised for 3 truckloads of wood! But, we are only 11% of the way towards our goal of providing heat this winter for the elderly in our village of Kolentsi.

We know that the economy is rough right now and that much of the USA is still experiencing really warm weather, but winter is coming and the people of Ukraine really need our help. FIREWOOD FOR KOLENTSI...

Winter is coming and with the weakened power infrastructure, many Ukrainians will suffer this winter.

In the village of Kolentsi, Ukraine., most homes are heated by wood burning stoves that double as both the families cooking and heating source. Through your generosity, we have provided firewood to our elderly neighbors for the past four years and and we want to continue this blessing this fall to make sure our community has heat during the winter of 2026!

Many of the widows are unable to purchase firewood for themselves. The cost of wood has increased from about $60 a truck in 2021 load to over to an average of $350 a truckload. Sadly, the average pension, in Ukraine, is about $50 a month. So, one truck of firewood to heat their homes would cost them a little more than 1/2 of the money that they receive in one year.

Jeremiah's Hope is committing to raise the funds to provide firewood for our neighbors. We have also asked our ministry team in Kolentsi to begin making the arrangements to order the firewood and get it delivered.

FIREWOOD FOR KOLENTSI...

Since the fall of 2022, Jeremiah's Hope has been providing firewood to the elderly and families with young children in our village of Kolentsi, Ukraine. We have done this in an effort to provide heating during the cold winter months as most village homes are heated by wood burning stoves that double as both the families cooking and heating source. Through your generosity, we have provided firewood for the past four years and and we want to continue this blessing this fall to make sure our community has heat during the winter of 2026!

Usually, many of these widows would slowly collect little pieces of firewood, throughout the year, as they take walks in the forest on the edge of the village.

These widows are unable to purchase firewood for themselves. The cost of wood has increased from about $60 a truck in 2021 load to over to an average of $350 a truckload. MAXIM TURNS 15!

Happy 15th Birthday to Maxim!!

While Maxim is bigger than his two older brothers (Yarik & Kolya), but he is still very much a sensitive soul.

This fall, Maxim started a level of his education. He will be pursuing continued studies at trade school to become an electrician. He is very excited about this new chapter in his life. Xander was able to quickly find a place for Maxim to do his electrical internship outside of school.

We are blessed to watch this kiddo grow into a young man with a big heart. It’s hard to believe he was 7 when he first came to the Rescue Shelter with his siblings.

A decade ago, Jeremiah's Hope was blessed with the opportunity to minister to Baba Marfa (Grandma Marfa is pictured below lighting her wood burning stove). Baby Marfa was in the final year of her life...in her late 80's and still taking care of herself. Winters were hard on her...carrying in the wood daily and lighting the wood burning stove which she used to keep the house warm and to cook with, getting water from the well with a bucket and working her small garden. She was frail, moved slowly and sometimes literally crawled outside to fetch firewood. Baba Marfa passed years ago, but she is representative of so many in our village of Kolentsi.

Many of the homes in Kolentsi date back a hundred years and are comprised of one or two rooms totaling less than 500 square feet. They are small homes, built with sweat and blistered hands in a time when even the tools were made by hand. The community of Kolentsi has a population of close to 300 people comprised of many elderly and a few families.

Water is primarily provided by 5-6 hand drawn wells scattered along "ulitsa Mira" (Peace Street) which is the one and only road in town and is made of sand. Most homes have barely enough electricity to run more than 2-3 lightbulbs at a time, so heating and cooking is done on wood burning stoves and brick ovens.

For the elderly, life is a challenge, especially in winter! And now, with the war entering another winter, acquiring firewood is not as easy as it once was. For the widows in Kolentsi, wood needs to be delivered and stacked long before winter comes. It is time to begin preparing for winter.

For the past four years, Jeremiah's Hope has provided truckloads of wood to dozens in Kolentsi to ensure they are able to survive the winter. Below, you will see pictures of some of our neighbors who we were able to bless last winter.

In the coming days, we will be sharing with you an opportunity to get involved with providing firewood for our neighbors in Kolentsi. Please join us in praying for our neighbors in Kolentsi. Pray for provision of their winter needs - firewood, root vegetables, quiet skies and peace. Please also pray about how God would use you to meet some of those needs! Maybe God is calling you to give. Maybe God is calling you to share the story of our community and ask others to join you in praying!

Quietly tucked away in a pine forrest half way between Kyiv and Chernobyl lies a little village called Kolentsi. Home to roughly 300 people living in small, log homes dotted along a single unpaved street marked by a half dozen bucket drawn water wells. A walk through Kolentsi easily transports you back a century as you encounter a community that has been left behind by the world around it.

Kolentsi is home to Jeremiah's Hope and we want to ask you to join us in praying for the community that we love so dearly. While most of us in America are still experiencing summer heat, Kolentsi is already experiencing early fall temperatures of upper 70's during the day and low 40's at night. Winter will come in late November and the people of Kolentsi are beginning to prepare. Between the harshness of a Ukrainian winter and the never ending Russian drones and missiles that fly over Kolentsi daily, the people are preparing for what is to come.

If you have not seen the news lately, Russia has been intentionally targeting food warehouses and we are seeing reports from friends in Ukraine that shelves in stores are looking bare, especially in regards to fruits and vegetables. One occupied town, in eastern Ukraine is being systematically starved, with Russian occupiers not allowing food in or people out. The shortages are concerning and people are worried about the upcoming winter. Ukrainians are tired, emotionally drained, and are doing their best to keep on going.

Knowing the situation in Ukraine, we want to ask you to pray, not just for the nation, but also specifically for our village, Kolentsi. Pray for relief, rest, and restoration.

In the coming days and weeks, we are going to share opportunities for you and your church to help meet winter needs for those we know and love in Kolentsi! Until then, please join us in praying for our beloved community!

Last night, the power line that feeds the Rescue Shelter house in Croatia blew. The electrical company said they would respond quickly, but it took them hours to arrive and they said that due to the fact it was evening, they could do nothing.

So, the kids had a peaceful dinner by candlelight...luckily, dinner was already prepared and cooked before the power line blew. However, there were no showers before bed as no one wanted a cold shower.

The electric company said they would come this morning...well, no one came until after 3 PM. It was a different group of technicians and they said that they cannot do anything. So, they simply "threw a line" from a different light pole for the time being...but the line was not to our power pole, it was a line into the house...so, now we have our teens in a house with an electric cable strung up on hooks leading to our house power box! This is not America...or Ukraine.
