Guardians of the Red River Valley- Richland and Wilkin Counties Join us as we defend our clean water, support family farming, and safeguard the legacy of the Red River Valley.

We are a grassroots coalition of neighbors, farmers, and community members across Richland and Wilkin counties in ND and MN united in our mission to protect the vital land, water, and air of the Red River Valley region. We are a grassroots coalition of neighbors, farmers, and community members across rural western Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, united in our mission to protect the vital land,

water, and air of the Red River Valley region. Based in the rich soil and deep traditions spanning Richland and Wilkin counties, we stand against the proposed industrial-scale dairy operations—specifically the mega-dairy planned near Abercrombie—that threaten our aquifers, well-being, and way of life. With generations rooted in this landscape, we raise our voices not against agriculture, but for sustainable, locally controlled food systems—because this land and our communities deserve a future defined by health, heritage, and resilience.

Excellent Op Ed on Riverview.

"When a giant like Riverview LLP says it must place almost 19,000 milk cows in one location just to keep growing, I can’t help thinking: That’s replacing over 200 farms like ours," Duane Holker writes.

Across the central U.S., nitrate from crop fertilizer and livestock facilities is seeping into water underground. Many family wells are no longer safe to drink from without pricey treatment.

People living near concentrated animal feeding operations, or CAFOs, in California, Texas and Iowa suffer from higher rates of cancer, suggesting that the air and water pollution from the massive farms may be playing a role, according to a new study.

The study, published in the journal Environmental Research, comes just weeks after a years-long report in Iowa found the state’s agricultural chemicals and CAFO pollution are, in part, behind its rising cancer rate.

In the new study, Yale University researchers examined the rates of all cancers over the past 20 years in Texas, California and Iowa counties along with the density of CAFOs in the counties. High exposure counties were defined as those in the top 25% of CAFO density for their state. The researchers found rates for all types of cancers were 4% higher in highly exposed California counties, and 8% higher in highly exposed Iowa and Texas counties when compared to counties with lower CAFO density.
