Transformative change happens when national policy meets local action! 💙

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Richard Mugahi (Commissioner for Maternal and Child Health) and the national delegation from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Sports for joining us at Butorwa camp in Ntoroko District for a powerful maternal and adolescent health dialogue.

A heartfelt thank you to Hon. Beatrice Rwakimari (Parliamentary Health Committee & 3FHi Board Member), the Bishop of Rwenzori Diocese, the Regional Khadi, Orthodox leadership, and our local interfaith champions for standing with the flood-displaced community in Kanara Sub-county.

What we heard from the community:
Housing & Protection: Overcrowding is severe, with families of 10 sleeping in single spaces. This lack of privacy was highlighted as a major driver of teenage pregnancy. Land is urgently needed to de-congest the camp.
Emergency Maternal Care: Mothers face long, unsupported journeys for emergency obstetric care. Upgrading Rwangara Health Center III to HCIV is critical to deliver life-saving C-sections locally.
Expanded Facilities: Ntoroko urgently needs a District Hospital and two new Health Center IIIs.
The Path Forward:
Interfaith leaders, alongside Dr. Mugahi and Hon. Readimari, will form a delegation to meet the Prime Minister of Uganda to advocate for land allocation for these displaced families.

Thank you to the Ntoroko District leadership for your dedication to improving health outcomes for every mother and child. 🙏✨ Ministry of Health- Uganda Comic Relief Jackie Katana Atarah Seera Tarah Davis Akampumuza Ezekiel Samuel M Masanga

Retooling Inter-Faith Champions for Community Action in Bundibugyo

As part of 3FHi’s ongoing initiative to strengthen community-led health interventions, faith leaders in Bundibugyo District participated in a crucial status update session led by the Assistant District Health Officer (ADHO).

The presentation shed light on several interconnected health, social, and economic indicators that require urgent, coordinated advocacy:
Public Health Vulnerabilities: Subdued vaccination rates and household congestion remain significant public health concerns.
Socio-Economic Pressures: Severe household food insecurity is driving high-risk behaviors, while commercial activities like cocoa harvesting frequently draw children away from schooling and development.
Family Dynamics & Gender Equality: Widespread alcohol abuse, unmanaged polygamous family dynamics, and divorce-related domestic violence continue to strain household stability. Additionally, educational prioritization currently skews heavily toward the girl child, pointing to a need for inclusive access for all children.

Day 2 Bundibugyo Retooling Inter-Faith Cha

🤝 RDC calls for Strengthening Partnerships for Community Health & Better Parenting in Bundibugyo during retooling activities of inter-Faith champions

Today 3FHi,meets with the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bundibugyo during our ongoing retooling activities with local inter-faith religious leaders. Working hand-in-hand with the District Health Office, our goal is to equip these community champions with vital health knowledge and actionable insights.

During the meeting, the RDC commended our champions for tackling critical local challenges, including poor parenting, high teenage pregnancy rates, and poverty. Highlighted key takeaways from the discussion include:
Addressing Root Causes: High rates of teenage pregnancy ("children bearing children") and out-of-marriage youth pregnancies require urgent, unified action.
Prioritizing Parenting: Improving parenting practices across communities is essential to safeguarding the future of young people.
Maximizing Local Resources: Overcoming district outreach budget constraints by fully utilizing available community networks and resources.
As the RDC noted, combining the influence of religious champions with district leadership allows us to achieve far more together. We remain committed to fostering resilient, healthy, and informed communities in Bundibugyo!

Happening Today in Ntoroko District! 📍

Faith for Family Health initiative (3FHi), in collaboration with the Ntoroko District Health Team (DHT), is conducting a 1-day retooling workshop for Interfaith and Multisectoral Champions—including religious, youth, and women leaders representing diverse faith traditions.

Since 2017, 3FHi has leveraged the trust, moral authority, and community reach of traditional faith structures to bridge national health policy with last-mile service delivery.

Today’s retooling session equips Ntoroko’s leaders with:
Evidence-Based Insights: Analyzing local Health Management Information System (HMIS) data to target pressing local health priorities.
Core SRH Focus Areas: Addressing Maternal & Child Health, voluntary Family Planning, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) pathways, and Adolescent Health.
SMART Advocacy & Accountability: Strengthening community feedback loops and budget tracking to ensure local health needs reach district decision-makers.
Through this exercise, champions are updating their 12-month District Interfaith Action Plan aligned with the Ministry of Health’s national RMNCAH+N Sharpened Plan (2025/26–2030/31).

Together, we are transforming baseline awareness into measurable advocacy, social accountability, and healthier families across Uganda.
