Platform Africa Stepping Up Actions For Community Empowerment

26/11/2025

We asked Jakie Devine what it truly takes to build a community where everyone can thrive. Her answer is: Love, Co-existence, and Tolerance.

Jackie emphasizes that tolerance is key 🔑, especially when people are at fault: “I should be able to forgive and take it easy because I could also be at fault.” The immediate reaction shouldn’t be malice or violence. Let’s practice forgiveness and relate to one another as part of the same village. This is the core of peace in action!

Do you agree with Jackie’s ingredients? Tell us what you would add! 👇

Me as a creative artist, my role is basically sensitization.” - / PCY, Black People Band ✊

Hear how PCY plans to use his art, his songs, his voice to spread messages of love and create awareness to stop hate speech. In our workshops; we explored the Pyramid of Hate, and creating the awareness that everyone, especially artists, has a role in stopping the escalation of conflict from bias all the way up to genocide.

Hate speech starts small, but the impact grows. 💔➡️💥 PCY shares the powerful lesson from our Kifaya peacebuilding workshop. For two days, we didn’t just jam, we tackled among many others, the tough topic of hate speech, learning how seemingly “light” words and posts can slowly escalate into serious conflict.

Kifaya (Enough is Enough) is committed to turning awareness into action through music and community in Uganda + South Sudan.

What’s your biggest takeaway from this message?

We have so much incredible news, videos, and performance highlights from our Jam sessions at the Microfest to share with our community! But first, we want you to meet one of our amazing artists

Hear Major B, our Kifaya artist, reflect on the Kifaya workshop’s impact. He opens up about how he’s dealt with hate speech in the past and how this experience brought him a much-needed likeminded community.

Our residency-style trainings are designed to do just this… create bonds and build solidarity. We are so proud Major found a new family here!

➡️ Listen Now! Check out our new song featuring Major B on YouTube (link in bio!).

What is peace to you ? For Kifaya artist, and South Sudan super star , it means, ''... silence of guns... Good security and living without fear.'' What is peace to you ? Let us know in the comments

Meet the Kifaya artists! We are introducing our artists through sound bites of peace messages and views. To kick things off, we asked +enta about the role creatives play in the world. His answer perfectly captures the spirit of this project: “... we are the ones who tell the stories of those who came before us, and teach those who come after us.”

Al+enta will be performing songs that defined the identity of South Sudanese in many ways at our upcoming Gulu Jam sessions!

Stay tuned! Don’t forget to follow , and follow our journey!

Wrapped up our media production workshops in Ofua 2 village, Rhino Camp refugee settlement. We worked with 15 young people from two peacebuilding organizations, Dynamic Action for Peace and Rehabilitation - DA4PR and RIAD Foundation Uganda, who are using drama for community awareness.

As bringing people together for performances becomes increasingly difficult due to limited funds for mobilizing large gatherings, and competing commitments like farming, audio dramas offer these organizations a means to still reach their target audience via radio without having to bring them together physically.

In this workshop, we empower them with the skills on how to create impactful stories for drama, hands-on skills on recording equipment, editing and audio sound design. These skills will empower these organizations to continue their important work of community engagement and change making.

The ASK Mobile Lab is a 7-month project in partnership with Community Creativity For Development - CC4D that will empower 100 refugee and host community youth in Rhino Camp, Uganda with media making, repair skills, and digital literacy training. This program is supported by Access to skills and Knowledge Network ASKnet / _r0g / agency for open culture and critical transformation with funds from Bundesministerium fĂĽr wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)

NB: The prompt for our group picture (last in roll) is to make a fun group photo. how did we do ?

"Meet Moris Lokujo, a shining star in empowering young women in Pagrinya Refugee Settlement!

Trained under the project in 2020, Moris became a Trainer of Trainers (ToT) for Youth Empowerment Foundation (YEF) and is now working full-time as a Programme Assistant.

Moris is leading the Mentor Her project, dedicated to equipping 50 young women with essential media and electronic skills, digital literacy, and creative thinking tactics. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to during these past few weeks as part of the project in collaboration with CC4D.

We kicked off our training series by working with the SootSemee / Amplifying Voices group in Omugo Village 4 in Rhino Camp. Running a community-centered media project, this group creates media/information that is locally relevant to the communities in the refugee camp on issues such as food ration distribution, peacebuilding, and dealing with misinformation, among others. The focused on strengthening their interviewing, podcasting, and editing skills so they can create the impact they want to see.

Through hands-on sessions, the group learned how to operate different types of digital recorders, DAWS like Audacity and Audition, and the basics of sequencing, editing, and sound design. Above all, they learned to use storytelling as a tool to transform narratives.

With these new skills, the participants are out in the community recording and editing their stories. Stay tuned for their stories and updates as we continue this journey!
