Islamic Teachings: Understanding Haram and Halal
In Islam, the concepts of Haram (forbidden) and Halal (permissible) guide a Muslim’s daily life. These teachings are derived from the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They help believers distinguish between what is morally and spiritually harmful and what is beneficial and pleasing to Allah.
Haram refers to actions and items that are strictly prohibited. Examples include alcohol and drugs, which harm both the body and mind. Pork products are forbidden in Islamic dietary law. Gambling is prohibited because it promotes greed and financial harm. Adultery and fornication are forbidden as they damage families and society. Interest (Riba) is also Haram because it exploits people financially. Stealing and cheating are major sins that violate trust and justice.
On the other hand, Halal represents actions that are lawful and encouraged. Halal food is prepared according to Islamic guidelines. Charity (Sadaqah) strengthens compassion and social responsibility. Prayer and worship build a strong connection with Allah. Honest business practices promote fairness and trust. Helping others and maintaining modesty and good morals reflect the character of a true believer.
Islam teaches that following the Halal path brings peace, blessings, and success in both this life and the hereafter. Avoiding Haram protects individuals and society from harm.
The message is simple: choose the right path, live with integrity, and seek Allah’s pleasure in every aspect of life.

Udhiyah means sacrifice. Every year, during the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal—whether a goat, sheep, cow, or camel—to symbolize the Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael for the sake of God.

In Islamic teaching, charity (Sadaqah) is highly important because it purifies wealth, brings one closer to Allah, cleanses the soul, and fosters social cohesion. It also serves as a shield against calamities, encourages spiritual growth, and is a means of earning divine rewards, both in this life and the hereafter.
