In the rural Zombo district, agriculture shines as the cornerstone of many thriving economies, empowering 69% of the entire population, including 65% of the youths who have overcome the absence of formal education, to courageously sustain their livelihoods through subsistence farming. However, the National Land Information System reveals that women's land ownership is still remarkably low at 27%, with less than 0.5% for women and less than 10% making land-related decisions in Zombo(District Land Board Data). Despite its vital role in propelling community development and socio-economic inclusion for youths, young women, and refugees fleeing from the Democratic Republic of Congo who bravely and unnoticeably cross the porous borders into Uganda, settling in bordering sub-counties such as Jangokoro, Abanga, Alangi, Paidha, Zeu,warr and Padea Town Council, agricultural productivity still faces significant challenges due to outdated farming practices, insufficient farmland, poor infrastructure, limited access to quality inputs, and weak market connectivity. This profoundly undermines community food security, livelihoods, income, and development.
Our vision stands, 'Gender Responsive Climate Smart Agriculture,' as a way to overcome the hurdles of food insecurity, nutrition, and low income for smallholder farmers by implementing a holistic and adaptable model that integrates sustainable farming techniques, access to affordable technologies, capacity building, market linkage support, and sustainable land use, unlocking a brighter future for marginalized rural communities and contribute to development
