Presenting the Cancer Policy Lab Uganda (CPL-U) HPV Vaccination Policy Brief to Ministry of Health departments and development partners—a key step in translating evidence into policy action for cervical cancer prevention in Uganda.

Recently, we had the opportunity to present the inaugural Cancer Policy Lab Policy Brief on HPV Vaccination Prioritization in Uganda to Ministry of Health departments and development partners. The policy brief was very well received and generated a rich discussion on how Uganda can accelerate progress towards cervical cancer prevention through improved HPV vaccination coverage.

A key theme that emerged from the dialogue was the importance of sustainable domestic financing for HPV vaccination. Participants noted that current HPV vaccine procurement is largely supported through donor financing mechanisms, which operate within specific eligibility and implementation frameworks. There was broad agreement that strengthening domestic financing for vaccine procurement could create opportunities to expand access, improve programme sustainability, and accelerate progress towards national HPV vaccination goals.

Another important recommendation was to advance the policy brief to Parliament to stimulate broader discussions on sustainable financing for HPV vaccination and cancer prevention. Ministry officials welcomed continued engagement and committed to supporting linkages with relevant parliamentary stakeholders. The discussion reinforced the value of bringing together policymakers, researchers, clinicians, civil society organizations, and development partners to translate evidence into actionable policy recommendations.

The Cancer Policy Lab Uganda, an innovation of the Ananda Centre for Cancer Research (ACCR), was established to bridge the gap between evidence and policy through structured multi-sector dialogue and co-creation of practical policy solutions.

🎉 We are proud to announce the successful completion of our first Applied Good Manufacturing Practice (AGMP) Course delivered by the Ananda Center for Cancer Research (ACCR) in collaboration with Makerere University School of Health Sciences.

📌 The course attracted an overwhelming response, with over 200 applications received from pharmaceutical professionals, regulators, researchers, and industry stakeholders across Uganda. Following a competitive selection process, 30 participants were selected and successfully trained in this inaugural cohort. The strong interest and positive feedback received from this first cohort reaffirm the growing demand for practical, locally relevant pharmaceutical manufacturing training in the region.

🚀 This innovative course is among the first contextualized and practice-oriented GMP trainings designed specifically for the pharmaceutical industry in East Africa, focusing on strengthening pharmaceutical manufacturing quality systems, regulatory compliance, and workforce capacity.

💊 At ACCR, we believe that improving access to safe, effective, quality, and affordable medicines requires more than policy discussions alone. It also demands investment in local systems, skills, manufacturing quality, and regional capacity building. We are excited about the future of this initiative and look forward to expanding the programme through future cohorts and partnerships.🌍

What happens when culture meets public health? Impact at scale.

At Ananda Centre for Cancer Research (ACCR), we are deeply grateful for the invitation from the Buganda Kingdom to join thousands in celebrating the Kabaka Birthday Run and 71 years of leadership and legacy.

This year’s theme, “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child,” is more than a message; it is a call to action in the fight to end HIV/AIDS and associated cancers by 2030.

In Kakuuto Level V Chiefdom (Mut. V), our team engaged communities through powerful conversations on HIV and related cancers; spotlighting prevention, early detection, and screening for HIV-associated cancers. We particularly emphasized HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening as game-changing interventions to protect women and girls.

However, one message stood out: Men in the community are worried and voiced deep concern about the rising loss of life due to prostate cancer, calling for more dialogue, awareness and solutions on this issue. This is why partnerships with cultural institutions matter. They do not just gather people, they move people.

We are committed to turning these conversations into action, bringing lifesaving knowledge and treatment services closer to the communities that need them most.

We were honoured to host a visit from the Global Health Corps (GHC) team at Ananda Center for Cancer Research (ACCR)

The meeting focused on exploring initiatives that will allow members of ACCR to benefit from the training, mentorship, and learning opportunities offered by GHC. Beyond capacity building, the discussion emphasized strengthening partnerships, fostering collaboration, and sustaining meaningful engagement between our organizations.

We look forward to building on this relationship and working together to advance health research, leadership, and impact in our communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the first Cancer Policy Lab Uganda (CPL-U) possible 🙏🏾

We successfully hosted the first Cancer Policy Lab Uganda (CPL-U); an innovation of the ANANDA CENTRE FOR CANCER RESEARCH (ACCR).

In commemoration of International Women’s Day (8 March 2026), policymakers, researchers, clinicians, immunization experts, health financing specialists, NGOs, and advocates came together to tackle an important national policy question:

🤹 How should Uganda prioritize HPV vaccination to maximize cervical cancer prevention, equity, and value for money?

At ACCR, one of our core missions is translating evidence into action and policy. The Cancer Policy Lab Uganda was created precisely for this purpose: to create a space where evidence meets policy dialogue and collective solutions.

🤝 The energy in the room today was inspiring and it shows what is possible when we bring the right people together around evidence and solutions. Today’s discussions reaffirm a powerful truth as we commemorate International Women’s Day (8 March 2026),
