Three minutes to present an innovation. Here is the story behind it. 🌍
At the World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong, ACCR had just three minutes to present the Cancer Policy Lab Model; our locally developed approach for bridging the persistent gap between research evidence, policy and implementation. The response was incredibly encouraging, with immediate interest and feedback from cancer leaders and colleagues from different parts of the world.
Presented by our Founder, Annet Nakaganda, the Cancer Policy Lab model, an innovation of the Ananda Centre for Cancer Research (ACCR), demonstrates how research evidence can be systematically translated into:
Evidence → Dialogue → Consensus → Policy → Implementation → Learning.
Our inaugural application focused on HPV vaccination prioritisation in Uganda, resulting in practical recommendations addressing governance, sustainable financing, equity and health-system implementation. The resulting policy brief has subsequently been used to engage Ministry of Health departments and development partners on translating these recommendations into action.
None of this work happens in isolation. We sincerely thank Ministry of Health - Uganda –UNEPI, Uganda Cancer Institute(UCI) Makerere University, participating researchers, clinicians, civil society organisations, development partners and all stakeholders who contributed their expertise and experience to the Cancer Policy Lab process.
