*** Enhancing learning outcomes through active learning****

At we-for-her initiative, we strongly believe in improving learning outcomes by promoting active learning through practice and experiment in order to develop learners' competencies.

We further build learners' competencies for better and stronger productivity by providing an opportunity to learners to enhance their own ideas and to be innovative with their newly developed ideas.

Agriculture is one the social enterprise activity that we promote and develop in our partner Schools in order to improve discover learners' competencies in enterprising, environment management and creativity.

We implement this through supporting the development of School gardens where we involve learners in the agriculture activity.

We are too proud to see WFHI School gardens progressing so well and learners are excited to be participating in the activity where they have learnt many new skills and developed various competencies.

We are excited to scale up this innovative idea to more Primary Schools next year (2024) to spread our impact.

We thank Komo Learning Centres for enabling his happen.

*MENSTRUATION AND MENTAL HEALTH MANAGEMENT IN ADOLESCENTS

*********Training and empowerment of Teen-trainers. *********

We aim at enhancing learning to improve learning out comes by breaking all the existing barriers to girls’ education. Social stigma and shame around menstruation is one of the barriers to girls’ education especially in rural Schools where accessibility to accurate information and means for menstruation hygiene is very limited resulting into unnecessary regular absenteeism from School.

We therefore make an effort to improve accessibility to inclusive information about menstruation and the means to hygiene and management by empowering adolescents with practical skills required to make re-usable sanitary pads, it also involves engaging boys in the whole process in order to fight and minimize menstruation-related stigma.

Menstruation in adolescent is also associated with several mental health issues which girls experience and they have a negative impact to girl’s participation and performance in class thus affecting learning outcomes.

Our commitment is to empower adolescent girls to manage menstruation and defeat mental health challenges during their menstrual periods by engaging them into menstruation and mental health management training to empower them with the skills to deal with psychological stress, anxiety and depression caused by shame and menstruation-related stigma.

This ultimately helps to improve their confidence and self-esteem. Our approach is to train and empower fifteen (15) selected adolescents per School including 13 girls and 02 boys as TEEN-TRAINERS who will deliver the same training to fellow adolescents in their respective Schools.

A total of 45 teen-trainers have been trained in three partner Schools. Each teen-trainer is empowered to train other adolescents to achieve significant impact and sustainability.

We thank the team of trainers including Organization staff and contact teachers who were trained by WFHI for the effort put in for the success of these activities in our partner schools.

We are highly indebted with our partners Komo Learning Centres for the support that has enabled successful implementation of our programs this year.

***Menstruation and mental health management in adolescents T.OT****

Menstruation in adolescent is associated with a lot of mental health issues which most girls experience as a result of social stigma and shame around menstruation; such challenges ultimately affect their participation and performance in class thus affecting learning outcomes.

We are therefore devoted to support the adolescent girls to defeat mental health challenges during their menstrual periods, by engaging them into menstruation and mental health management training to equip them with the skills to manage emotional stress anxiety and depression caused by shame and menstruation-related stigma in order to help them to stay in School and continue with learning even when they experience their periods..

Before trainings are delivered in Schools, we held a T.O.T where six (06) Teachers from our partner Schools and eight (08) Organization staff were trained as trainers; the purpose of this T.O.T was to prepare and empower a team of trainers to deliver the same training to adolescent learners in our partner Schools.

At the end of the training,Participants gained training skills required to deliver similar training to the adolescents in our partner Schools.Participants were empowered with information about menstruation and mental health management which will help to enhance adolescents’ accessibility to inclusive sexual and reproductive health information.

Participants were equipped with skills to support adolescents to manage psychological stress anxiety and depression caused by shame and menstruation-related and stigma.Participants further gained practical skills required to make re-usable sanitary pads and how they can deliver the same skills to adolescent girls in our partner Schools in order to improve accessibility to means for menstrual hygiene and management.

We thank all the participants for the good participation in this training, we have much hope that skills gained will be beneficial to support our learners to concentrate in class for better performance and improved learning out comes.
