JENGA Uganda

JENGA Uganda JENGA also aims to witness to the truth about Jesus Christ in a culturally sensitive manner. God bless you!

Improving the quality of life of the vulnerable and disadvantaged in the poorest communities, demonstrating the love of God in both words and actions through sustainable community development. JENGA focuses on providing the essentials of life such as water, sanitation, health and education to the most needy communities and targets women, children and orphans. JENGA was established as a Registered

Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in August 2005 and is rapidly growing with a number of Ugandan staff and unpaid international volunteers. JENGA UK was also registered in 2007 to provide assistance with administration and partner support in the UK. I invite you to check out our website and learn all about what we are doing in Uganda. If you should choose to support us, either through prayer or financial support, your involvement will be greatly appreciated.

🌱 In case you didn’t know, our name ‘JENGA’ means ‘to build’ in Kiswahili, and that sums up what we’re all about. We’re passionate about empowering our communities to build lasting bridges out of poverty.

That’s why our recent invitation to exhibit at an expo in Mbale, with the opportunity to meet the Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives and the MP for Mbale, was so exciting!

Both JENGA Design (our beautiful crafts project), and Zukuka Bora Coffee Company were able to showcase their products and were given a special mention during the speeches as examples of grassroots projects supporting community members with fair wages 🧡

The Minister was so interested in our work that he even shared ideas for local materials that could be used to create new products. We love that!

Both JENGA Design and Zukuka Bora work hard to support some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, including single mothers and farmers. They offer above-market payments and greater access to markets by cutting out the middlemen. Their profits are also fed back into the community, supporting other programmes and people in need, while investing in supplies to help crafters and farmers produce even higher-quality products.

We don’t know about you, but we think that’s amazing! Well done JENGA Design and Zukuka Bora! ✨🧡

🏌️ Congratulations, Dan!

Today we're celebrating Dan, one of our bright young golfing stars 🧡

At just 15 years old, Dan recently won the B Division Juniors competition against 42 players. Then, just last week, he went on to win the overall Junior competition against 50 players. What an amazing achievement! 🏆

Dan has been playing golf for just four years and already has a handicap of only 10. We don't know about you, but we think that's pretty incredible!

Congratulations Dan! You did a tee-riffic job! ⛳

🎉 Saturday was a special day!

JENGA hosted a celebration to mark 20 years since our founding, together with our UK friends, volunteers, and supporters. 🧡

We're so aware that everything we do is only possible because of the support, encouragement, and generosity of so many wonderful friends around the world. What a joy it was to celebrate all that has been accomplished together!

Old and new friends gathered to share stories, enjoy a delicious hog roast, watch videos from the team here in Mbale, and of course celebrate with cake! 🎂

Today, we simply want to take a moment to thank everyone who has been part of the JENGA story.

To everyone who has prayed, given, volunteered, partnered with us, or cheered us on over the last 20 years- you have played such an important part in seeing lives empowered and communities transformed.

Thank you for your support over the years. Here's to all that is still to come! ✨🧡

📚 Here at JENGA, we are passionate about education and the opportunities it can create!

Sadly, many of the men and women in the local prisons we work alongside have often not had the opportunity to complete primary school. Without Primary Leaving Examination results, gaining employment can be incredibly difficult.

That's why JENGA has helped establish a school in one local prison and providing supplies to three other prison schools . Recently, we were excited to provide scholastic materials for 375 students across these prison schools 🧡

Education not only empowers these students with essential skills such as literacy and numeracy, it opens doors, restores hope, and creates new opportunities for people as they prepare to rebuild their lives once they have been released.

We were also pleased to provide a sewing machine to one of our newest prison schools🧵 This will enable women to sew, repair their uniforms, and provide opportunities to practice tailoring skills. We hope to provide another machine soon to enable future tailoring training - equipping them with valuable skills for employment or self-employment when they transition back to society.

A huge thank you to the team for continuing to invest in lives through education, practical skills, and hope✨

🧡 We're so excited to share a new partnership!

One of our favourite coffee shops here in Mbale, Endiro Coffee , has partnered with JENGA to run weekly training sessions in three of our communities ☕

These sessions will equip young women aged 16–35 with practical income-generating skills, including jewellery making. This is such an amazing opportunity for these women, to be trained in new skills, which can help them to be more financially secure and to better support themselves and their families ✨

A huge thank you to the Endiro team for investing in our communities in this way. We’re so grateful for this partnership and we know this training will have such a powerful impact! 🧡

☕ Fancy a coffee?

We thought you might like a sneak peek at what happens to the 2% of our Zukuka Bora Coffee Company coffee harvest that is prepared in our in-house roastery right here in Mbale and sold locally across Uganda! 🇺🇬

As you can see, Ronald faithfully roasts our coffee in small batches before preparing orders and arranging deliveries to customers across the country.

And when it comes to serving great coffee, with the help of our fabulous espresso machine, our brilliant baristas Reuben (pictured no.2) and Dave serve a delicious selection of coffees ☕

We may be a little biased, but there’s something special about enjoying a freshly brewed coffee with a view of the very mountain where it was grown⛰️✨

☕Coffee Bonuses

625 farmers. 8 buying sites. 27 million UGX in bonuses.

Would you believe that during the 2025-2026 harvest Zukuka Bora Coffee purchased over 270,000kg of coffee cherries from 625 farmers across 8 buying sites on the slopes of Mount Elgon!? 🌱

As well as paying for every coffee delivery, the team have now distributed an additional 27 million UGX (£5,300) in bonuses as a special thank you to the farmers they work alongside 🧡

Zukuka Bora is one of the few coffee companies on the market to provide a bonus to every farmer they work with. These payments are intentionally made during the ‘hungry season’ when school fees are due and many families face increased financial pressure.

Combined with above-market prices at the point of collection, cutting out the middleman, and ongoing farmer training to help increase the fruitfulness of yield, these are all ways that Zukuka Bora is helping farming families thrive. ✨

We’d love to say a massive thank you to the Zukuka Bora team, their customers and supporters, for making this possible - all while producing top-quality, award-winning coffee ☕🧡

Last week, we bode a fond (and sad!) farewell to the wonderful Katharine!🧡

One of JENGA’s longstanding volunteers. A champion of empowering young people and preventing juvenile crime. An ever kind, patient and joyful presence in the office and our resident colour expert!

We have had the privilege of working with Katharine for 9 wonderful years, and we are so incredibly grateful for the passion and seeds she has sown so faithfully over this time, and have marvelled at the fruit this had lead to, and all the fantastic Youth Empowerment team have achieved so far. We know this brilliant team will continue to grow this incredible work and we can’t wait to see and cheer them on as they empower even more young people in our communities.

Katharine, thank you for nine amazing years. We are so thankful for you, and for all you have brought to our team. We will so miss your kindness, gentleness, ever collected and calm spirit and your faithful heart. We’d love to take a moment to wish you all the best for your next steps – we know they’re going to be amazing!🧡

🙏 To those who pray, please remember Uganda during the current Ebola outbreak.

Uganda has a long history of managing outbreaks well, and this one is no different. At present, Uganda has registered 19 cases, with no new Ebola cases reported since 6th June. We are thankful that the Ministry of Health has been doing a great job of identifying and isolating suspected cases and contacts.

Please join us in praying for good health for those in our communities, for those directly affected by the outbreak, and that there would be no further cases.

Thank you 🧡
