Improving the quality of life of the vulnerable and disadvantaged in the poorest communities, demonstrating the love of God in both words and actions through sustainable community development. JENGA focuses on providing the essentials of life such as water, sanitation, health and education to the most needy communities and targets women, children and orphans. JENGA was established as a Registered Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in August 2005 and is rapidly growing with a number of Ugandan staff and unpaid international volunteers. JENGA UK was also registered in 2007 to provide assistance with administration and partner support in the UK. I invite you to check out our website and learn all about what we are doing in Uganda. 🌿 Natural Herbal Medicine Training

As an extension of our agricultural work and training in organic farming methods, we have recently introduced training in Natural Herbal Medicine.

This month, we began delivering the training in the neighbouring district of Budaka, where 70 community members took part.

Participants learned about locally available medicinal plants, including how to identify appropriate species, grow and cultivate them effectively, and safely prepare and process plants for medicinal purposes🌱

This initiative builds on our existing agricultural training, equipping communities with practical knowledge that helps them make better use of the natural resources available around them, while also helping to reduce medical costs for families.

We’re excited to see how this new area of training can continue to equip and empower communities with practical skills and knowledge 🧡

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Community Parenting Seminars

Last week, we held two community seminars focused on parenting, bringing together around 150 people in both Mbale and Manafwa Districts.

Many of those who attended are already part of our village savings groups, providing a great opportunity to come together, learn and share experiences. We were particularly encouraged by the number of men who attended both seminars! 🧡

The sessions created space for teaching, discussion and honest conversations around parenting, with many good discussions taking place throughout the day.

We loved seeing people leave the seminars feeling hopeful, with new ideas and encouragement to strengthen their families and communities.

It’s wonderful to see the relationships built through our village savings groups creating opportunities for people to learn and grow together 🌱

⚽ From Football to Education

JENGA’s Sky Sports Football Academy ( Sky Sports Soccer Club ) uses football coaching to identify and develop local talent, while mentoring young people and encouraging them to make healthy and positive choices for their lives.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of some of our players, whose dedication and footballing talent have opened doors to further education scholarships. Their success shows how sport can create opportunities, build confidence and help young people pursue a brighter future 🧡

Five young men have received scholarships for further education:

🎓 Emmanuel Kwiri – Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology
🎓 Timothy Otim – Bachelor’s Degree in Education
🎓 Felix Wekoye – Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology
🎓 Shariff Kuloba – Diploma in Information Technology
🎓 Yusuf Khaukha – Certificate in Information Technology

All five have now joined their respective institutions and begun their studies.

And pictured alongside them (photo 4) is Jeremiah Wamanga, aged 14, who is currently in Senior 1 and has been awarded a scholarship to support his secondary education through FIFA’s Schools of Excellence Programme.

Alongside this academic opportunity, Jeremiah’s footballing talent has also earned him the honour of captaining Uganda’s U15 Eastern Region team! 🇺🇬

We’re so proud to see how Sky Sports Football Academy is helping develop the young players who come through our programmes - both on and off the pitch.

Well done to all six young men! 🧡

🔥 Pioneer Youth Conference

Last weekend, 135 young people aged 12-20 from 19 of our partnering churches came together for our annual Pioneer Youth Conference, held in our new 24/7 prayer altar.

These young people aren’t just attending church, they are actively involved in helping their churches minister to and reach out to their communities. The conference is an opportunity to encourage, strengthen and speak into the lives of these young people as they grow in their faith and discover how they can make a difference with their lives 🧡

Held in partnership with Entrust Foundation , we were so encouraged by the number of young people who attended and, even more so, by their hunger to grow in their faith and make a difference in their communities.

What a brilliant weekend! 🧡

It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye to valued members of the JENGA team, and today we want to celebrate two wonderful women who are moving into new chapters.

🌱 Lydia Nabalayo (photos 1&2)
Lydia has been part of our early childhood development project, Bright Beginnings, for the past six years. Alongside her colleagues, she has faithfully travelled to Government primary schools across the region, training early years teachers in phonics.

Lydia has been such a steadfast and reliable member of the team, and we will certainly miss her fun and hardworking nature. But we’re also excited for her as she moves into a full-time teaching position at a newly built secondary school in a neighbouring district. This is an exciting new chapter as Lydia will now be working in the area she originally trained for! 🧡

🌸 Mary Apolot (photo 3)
Mary has been a hardworking and faithful member of the team at LOVED Children’s Centre. One of the original members of the team, she has served selflessly for the past eight years. Mary is known for her kindness, care and selfless love, and that is exactly what she has shown to the children she has cared for at the centre and in her community.

Having previously struggled with addiction, Mary is now a passionate advocate for sobriety in Namatala. As she retires after many years of service, we’re so thankful for all she has given to the children and community around her. Her retirement gift has enabled her to open a small shop, where she continues to serve her community by providing affordable food🧡

We’re so grateful for the years of service Lydia and Mary have given to JENGA and the communities they have served. We wish them both every blessing as they begin these new chapters! ✨

JENGA is continuing to grow beyond the immediate region of Mbale City, with Namisindwa being one of the areas we are now working in.

Just last week, JENGA, in partnership with Cosmos Alliance held a mental health awareness training to raise awareness of mental health challenges in the district and strengthen the mental health referral system. 🧡

The training brought together the District Health Officer, cultural and religious leaders, medical professionals and Village Health Teams.

Together, they explored understanding mental health challenges, identifying resource gaps, strengthening referral pathways, reducing stigma and raising awareness within the community.

We’re so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside local leaders and professionals to help strengthen support for mental health across Namisindwa 🧡

☕ We have some exciting news from Zukuka Bora!

Just last month, our very own Zukuka Bora Coffee Company Company was selected by the Ugandan Government as one of only three coffee companies across the country to receive a brand-new pulping machine, valued at around £5,000! 🧡 (pictured)

This is an incredible blessing as we begin the new coffee season. From cherry to cup, there are four different pathways that coffee can take at Zukuka Bora, each requiring careful management throughout the process. With the capacity to pulp up to 800kg of coffee cherries per hour, this new machine will make a significant difference, helping the team process coffee more efficiently as the season gets underway.

And for our coffee lovers who want to know more about what happens to the coffee from Mt. Elgon, we've put together a full 2025/26 season review! ☕🌱
