Young people don’t always say “I am struggling.”
It often shows up in quieter ways. A drop in school performance. Pulling away from friends. Irritability. Losing interest in things they used to enjoy.
These changes are easy to dismiss as bad behavior or lack of discipline. But in many cases, they are signs that a young person is not coping well.
Mental health challenges rarely appear suddenly. They build over time and reveal themselves through behavior.
That is why early attention matters.
Pay attention to small changes. Create space for honest conversations. Listen without rushing to judge or correct.
Support does not require perfect answers. It starts with noticing.
Because when young people feel seen and understood early, it can prevent bigger challenges later.
If you work with young people, ask yourself: what are you noticing, and what are you doing about it?

This Easter, we reflect on hope, renewal, and new beginnings.

As we celebrate, let us choose kindness. Let us check in on one another. Let us keep building communities where mental wellbeing is a priority, not an afterthought.

Let us use this season to remember that every young person deserves the chance to rise beyond their circumstances.

From our team to you, we wish you a peaceful and meaningful Easter.

Well-being is not one thing.
It is a system.
Emotional well-being affects how you understand and manage your feelings.
Psychological well-being shapes how you think, cope, and make decisions.
Social well-being influences your relationships and sense of belonging.
Physical well-being determines your energy, health, and daily functioning.
Occupational well-being affects your sense of purpose and productivity.
These areas are connected.
If a student is emotionally overwhelmed, concentration drops.
If psychological resilience is low, small setbacks feel permanent.
If social support is weak, isolation grows.
If physical health suffers, learning declines.
If the purpose is unclear, motivation fades.
You cannot strengthen one area and ignore the others.

For adolescents, this connection is even more critical.
At this stage, identity is forming. Habits are developing. Coping patterns are being shaped. When we support only academic performance and ignore emotional, social, and psychological development, we create imbalance.

True development requires a whole-person approach.
In schools and communities, this means:
• Teaching emotional regulation skills
• Building healthy peer relationships
• Promoting positive thinking patterns
• Encouraging physical health habits
• Guiding young people toward meaningful goals

Well-being is not a luxury. It is foundational.
If we want young people to perform, lead, and contribute to their communities, we must invest in all dimensions of their well-being.
Because when one piece is neglected, the entire system feels it.

Good News🎉🥳

Today, we held our district inception meeting for the Early Intervention and Support Program and specifically, for the Psyclubs Project with key offices including the CAO, DEO, DHO, CDO, and other responsible district departments.

The Principal Assistant CAO, Mr. Kyamusana Aliyi, welcomed the initiative and highlighted real mental health cases the district has witnessed. He noted that this program fills a long-standing gap in supporting young people.

The Education Department committed its full support to ensure smooth implementation and scale-up, including future work with teachers and community members who also face mental health challenges. The District Health Office pledged direct coordination through the referral pathways already established in the district, including mental health clinics at Health Centre IVs and other support units.

Together, the district leadership endorsed the program and affirmed its importance in strengthening the wellbeing of the people of Mayuge. The project officially begins in January 2026, with the pilot running until 2028 in four selected schools. This is an important milestone for us and for the communities we serve. ,

Join us in creating safe and supportive environments for every learner in Mayuge District and beyond.

Your support today strengthens the future of young people.
When you give, you help us create safe and supportive school environments where every learner can grow, learn, and complete school. Your contribution fuels real work on the ground. Here are four ways your giving makes a direct impact.

1. Support adolescent mental health.
You help young people access care and safe spaces where they can talk, heal, and get support before challenges escalate.

2. Keep young people in school.
You make it possible for us to reach learners at risk of dropping out and help them stay engaged in their education.

3. Reduce stigma in communities.
You support awareness activities that help students understand mental health, seek help early, and support one another.

4. Expand school-based programs.
You help us reach more schools, train more teachers, and strengthen early intervention for adolescents.

Your giving today matters.
It protects a child’s wellbeing.
It strengthens a school.
It changes the community.

Give today and support a young person’s path to learn, stay in school, and thrive.

Today, we join the world to mark World AIDS Day 2025 under the theme “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.”

HIV continues to affect young people in our communities. Many still face stigma, fear, and limited access to accurate information. These barriers disrupt prevention, delay care, and weaken support systems.

Our core programs for 2025-2030 focus on creating safe and supportive environments where learners can share their challenges, easily access support and trusted persons to protect their health and future.
We link HIV awareness with mental health support because stigma and fear affect a young person’s confidence to seek help.

We believe that building strong school structures through peer leaders, focal teachers, and youth-friendly messages, will promote prevention, early testing, and care.

Every young person deserves dignity.
Every learner deserves support.
Every community plays a role.

This World AIDS Day, we choose action.
We choose accurate information.
We choose stronger systems that reach every adolescent.

Together, we can overcome barriers and transform the HIV response for all young people.

Psych Care Uganda is excited to introduce the PsyClub pilot Project (2025–2028), a school-based mental health support initiative designed to strengthen adolescent wellbeing across Mayuge District.

Through student-led, teacher-supported mental health clubs, the PsyClub Project will create safe spaces where learners can talk openly about mental health, build coping skills, and access timely support.

The Goal of the project revolves around improving adolescent mental wellbeing and reducing stigma by integrating mental health education, peer support, and referral systems into secondary schools.

Working together with partners like Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) and other stakeholders, this project will;
- Establish 12 functional PsyClubs across Mayuge District
- Train 12 teacher-advisors and 24 peer leaders in psychosocial support
- Reach over 1,000 adolescents with mental health education by the end of the pilot
- Integrate Psychosocial support and Social Emotional Learning in school settings
- Strengthen school-based referral and safeguarding system

so that; there is improved mental well-being and resilience among Adolescents,
- Reduced school dropouts linked to emotional distress,
- Improved school attendance and engagement due to coping and support,
- Strengthened peer support systems within schools etc.
This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Education and Sports’ Circular No. 20 on promotion of mental health in schools and other widely evidenced studies on effectiveness of school based mental health programs in schools, ensuring that every learner has access to emotional support and a safe environment to thrive.

Join us as we champion adolescent mental health and build a generation that is emotionally resilient, confident, and empowered.
