Our Plant-Based Diets & Kitchen Garden Project Report is Coming Soon!

Over the past months, we have been working with students to promote healthy eating, climate awareness, and sustainable food production through plant-based diets and kitchen gardening.

Thanks to the generous support of The Pollination Project Foundation, we have witnessed inspiring learning experiences and meaningful progress.

We are excited to share the full project report soon, highlighting the journey, achievements, lessons learned, and impact created together with the school community.

“Earth League has shown that football can be a powerful tool for shaping disciplined, responsible, and environmentally conscious young people. This is the kind of grassroots initiative that helps grow both talent and community values.”

These were some of the remarks shared by the Technical Head of the Mayuge District Football Association during the Finals of the Earth League.

Tomorrow, as the world marks World Football Giving Day, we are reminded that football can go beyond the pitch. In our communities, it is becoming a tool for education, leadership, climate action, and youth empowerment.

Through the first edition of Play4Change: The Earth League:
- 27 matches were played
- 250+ students participated
- 8 schools engaged
- 165 trees committed for planting through our “Goals That Grow” initiative

But this impact was only possible because volunteers, teachers, referees, schools, and supporters believed in the vision even before funding was secured.

As we join the global football-for-good movement tomorrow, we invite you to support our fundraiser and help us continue building opportunities for young people through football.

What happens after the final whistle?

For us, the work continues.

The first edition of Play4Change: The Earth League brought together schools, students, teachers, referees, and communities across Mayuge District through football, climate action, and SDG awareness.

But behind every matchday were real costs:
- Football equipment
- Media documentation
- Community radio updates
- School mobilization
- Referee coordination
- Playground preparation and maintenance

The Earth League was delivered through commitment, volunteer effort, and belief in the power of football to create positive change for young people.

Now, we are fundraising €2,200 to help reimburse the costs invested in delivering the league and prepare for the next phase of Play4Change.

Every contribution and every share helps us continue building a football-for-good movement in our communities.

The first edition of Play4Change: The Earth League officially came to an end after bringing together schools and communities across Mayuge District through football, climate action, and SDG awareness.

What started as a simple idea became a movement:
- 27 matches played
- 250+ students engaged
- 8 schools participated
- 165 trees to be planted through our “Goals That Grow” initiative

The league was delivered through commitment, collaboration, and the belief that football can be a tool for education, leadership, and community change.

To help us responsibly close this first chapter and prepare for the next phase, a fundraising campaign has been launched to support the costs invested in delivering the tournament.

A few years ago, if someone told me that students in rural schools would confidently stand and explain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), connect football to climate action, or start small saving initiatives while still in school, I would probably pause for a moment.

Today, I see it happening.

And one thing I continue learning through our work at Comrades To Youths Africa is this:

Young people are not too young to lead.
Sometimes, they are simply waiting for someone to expose them to the possibility.

So far, through our programs, we have reached 18,000+ learners across 25 schools. But beyond the numbers, what encourages me most is the mindset shift happening quietly in these communities.

Students are beginning to:
- Think differently about the environment
- Ask deeper questions about their future
- Take initiative in their schools and communities

This is why sustainability education matters.

Because when young people understand the problems around them early enough, they also begin believing they can be part of the solutions.

We still have a long way to go, and like many grassroots organizations, resources remain a challenge. But moments like these keep reminding us that the work is worth it.

And maybe that’s how change truly starts, one informed young person at a time.

“This league is not only developing football talent, but also raising a generation that understands leadership, environmental conservation, and the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

These were some of the remarks shared by the Head of Sports at the District Education Office during the Earth League finals in Mayuge District.

Over the past 8 weeks, the Earth League brought together primary schools through football while integrating conversations around climate action, leadership, and the SDGs.

This is the kind of grassroots sport-for-good model we believe can create long-term impact in communities.

A big appreciation to all schools, teachers, referees, volunteers, partners, and supporters who contributed to making this possible.

We are looking to collaborate with partners interested in youth empowerment, climate action, education, and sport for development to help us grow the Earth League further.

The Earth League officially came to an end last weekend after 8 weeks of football, learning, and community engagement across Mayuge District.

Congratulations to 🏆 Queen of Peace Nursery and Primary School - Butegwa for emerging as the champions of the 2026 Earth League.

But beyond the trophy, this tournament represented something bigger.

Through football, 200+ students engaged in conversations about environmental conservation, climate action, leadership, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). What started as matches on the pitch became an opportunity to empower these young people to think differently about their future and their communities.

Throughout the league:
⚽ 27 matches were played
⚽ 55 goals were scored
🌱 165 trees are to be planted as part of our “Goals That Grow” initiative

We appreciate all schools, teachers, referees, volunteers, partners, and supporters who made this possible.

We are now looking for partners and supporters to help us grow the Earth League and expand this football-for-good model to reach more schools next year.

At Comrades to Youths Africa, we believe that teachers are at the centre of lasting change in schools.

In this video, our Team Leader, Pius Isabirye, shares a message of appreciation to the teachers who continue to guide, encourage, and shape the next generation of sustainability leaders in our communities.

So far, we have worked with and empowered 25+ teachers across schools in Mayuge District, and their role in sustaining this impact cannot be overstated.

To every teacher walking this journey with us, thank you for choosing to inspire beyond the classroom.

“Beyond playing football, we are also learning about SDGs and conserving the environment" A student mentions in the video attached

For these young players, football is becoming more than a game. It is creating space for learning about the United Nations Global goals and the purpose of protecting their environment beyond the pitch.

As we approach 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆, we are proud to see young people using sport as a pathway to personal growth and positive community change.

𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲

This 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸, we celebrate the educators who are at the heart of building sustainability leaders in our communities.

Through our Training of Trainers (ToT) program in 2025, we worked with 14 teachers across primary and secondary schools in Mayuge District, ensuring representation from both rural and semi-urban communities.

The results speak to the power of investing in teachers:
- Teacher confidence in delivering sustainability education increased from 50% to 86%
- 100% of trained teachers can now clearly articulate leadership and entrepreneurship concepts
- Teachers conducted 78 sessions, contributing their own time to sustain learning
- Through this model, we reached 1,047 students

Beyond the numbers, we witnessed a shift.

Teachers moved from facilitators to c𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 within their schools.

This reinforces what we believe:
𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀.

As we continue this work, we are committed to strengthening teacher-led implementation and expanding this model to reach more schools.

We invite partners and supporters to join us in investing in teachers, because when teachers are empowered, entire communities benefit.
