Community Based Initiative for Rural Development (CBIRD) is a non-political and non-profit Ugandan service delivery and research organisation. It operates within the poor/isolated areas in the Masaka district of Uganda. CBIRD is devoted to activities that improve the performance of rural primary schools to ensure the sustainable development of rural communities. CBIRD’s activities include; the reconstruction of rural primary schools, promotion of equal education opportunities for girls and boys, provision of scholastic materials, supporting games and sports as well as music, dance and drama in primary schools, capacity building, research and advocacy. Participatory approach is central in all the activities of CBIRD to encourage active participation of the local community members.
