Happy International Women’s Day!
On this , we celebrate the strength, courage, resilience, and voices of women and girls everywhere.

This year’s theme, “Rights, Justice, and Action for All Women and Girls,” calls for a world where every woman and girl can claim her rights, live free from discrimination, and make informed choices about her body, health, and future.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting, educating, and taking action so every woman and girl can live with dignity, equality, and opportunity.

Ahead of , we joined Alliance of Women Advocating Change (AWAC) to commemorate the day through an Essay, Story, and Poetry Contest under the theme: “Women’s Experiences of Unsafe Abortion and Abortion Rights in Uganda.”

Listening to women share their stories and poems was powerful. Many spoke about silence, stigma, and the realities surrounding unsafe abortion and access to Post-Abortion Care. Their courage to share reminds us why these conversations on women’s health, dignity, and rights must continue.

Join us LIVE on TikTok this Friday for an open and informative conversation on sexual and reproductive health and pleasure.

We will be hosting Nabwire Polyne, Head of Programs at Family Medical Point, who will share expert insights on why and how sexual pleasure can be meaningfully integrated into SRHR programming. The session will also feature university students we work with, who will contribute their perspectives and lived experiences.

This marks the first episode of our weekly sexual pleasure conversation series. We will be going LIVE every Friday at 2 PM on the page.

A 3rd Feb Daily Monitor story reports about the 80 unsafe abortion cases on average monthly at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital. This is not a Soroti issue, it’s a national crisis, common among university girls. Silence doesn’t save lives. Access to services does.

At our Info Cafe, a moment of curiosity turned into learning.
Oliver saw a lubricant for the first time and asked questions to understand what it is and how it is used. Our Voices Nurse responded with patience and clarity, creating a safe space for an open SRHR conversation.
This is why we engage young women on campus—to ensure they have access to information, confidence, and care when it comes to their sexual and reproductive health.
Sometimes impact starts with a simple question.

The internet is where many girls go for information—but not everything online is true.
Misinformation is putting girls at risk every day.
We’re creating safe digital spaces through our info cafes where girls can access accurate, reliable, and empowering SRHR information both online and offline—because informed girls make powerful choices.

A safe space is where girls feel respected, listened to, protected and free to interact with each other— both online and offline.
Creating such spaces is key to preventing Gender-Based Violence and promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
Join us in creating those safe spaces for every girl.

We’re officially back after the festive holidays!
We continue to focus on Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention for girls.
Through advocacy, engagement, and safe spaces, we continue to empower girls to make informed decisions about their health, bodies, and overall wellbeing.
Thank you to our partners and stakeholders for your continued support — together, we can ensure dignity, safety, and choice for every girl.

Today, the world marks International Human Rights Day, reflecting on 77 years since the UDHR. But despite this progress, millions of girls still experience violations of the most basic rights.

UNICEF’s 2024 report shows 370 million girls and women globally were sexually assaulted before turning 18, and the number rises to 650 million when online abuse and harassment are included.
In Uganda, the 2021 UBOS/UN Women survey found that 95% of women and girls have faced violence—yet convictions remain under 2%.

These numbers show a global crisis. We must push for better protections, stronger laws, and real support for survivors.
A world where every girl lives free from violence is possible—if we act together.

On Friday, 5th December, Voices attended the Coalition to Stop Maternal Mortality due to Unsafe Abortion (CSMMUA) end-of-year meeting to review the Post-Abortion Care Guidelines, which now harmonize Uganda’s PAC policies with global standards. These guidelines bring:
✨ Clarity on roles and responsibilities
✨ Respectful, client-centered care &
✨ Evidence-based clinical guidance
We also discussed the Constitutional Court ruling in Petitions 10/2017 & 25/2020. Even when the ruling was not in favor of the women and girls, it still presents an open space for evidence-based law reform.
