However, the Northern part of “the Pearl of Africa” has been badly ravaged by a protracted war stage managed by LRA for over 24 years. Whereas the Lonely Planet www.lonelyplanet.com voted Uganda the No. 1 destination for 2012, this part of the nation has not benefit from that. That is just an example of how bad things are. Northern Uganda has got nothing to be proud of, save for the peace that has
since been restored. Our livelihood has been greatly affected, Cultural institutions have died out, many people remain unemployed, Land Disputes remain rampant due to the on going resettlement and struggle to economically rediscover the lost “roots”, Over 80% of people are generally living below the poverty line, there is a high rate of School dropouts, the youth are crying, the elders are aggrieved, the rate of diseases like HIV/AIDS is high (Coupled with the mystery of the Nodding Disease affecting Children), people are generally desperate and development as a whole is elusive here. But despite all that, we remain hopeful. The government is working hard through various programs to rake in development, International NGOs are also doing a lot and they have played a very big role in reestablishing Northern Uganda. The question is; what can you and I do to help and solve this entire quagmire? That’s why we founded the North Pearl Foundation (NPF), to work together and restore our lost glory and harness a brighter future. A future with total peace at all levels, a future with socio-economic Development in all sectors, a good, democratic and accountable political leadership, an empowered civil society, clean water and protected Environment, an Educated society, good Agricultural practices for our farmers, good health for all, best cultural practices, identity and restoration and many more. We have thus come up with tailor-made programs to enable us achieve our set goals and objectives. We truly need you to be part of this new age revolution. We believe that together, we can make it.
