MEET ESTHER, 23 YEARS OLD. SHE IS A MOTHER TO HER DISABLED BROTHER. 😭

I found Esther today in a small single room in Mukono Central Division at 6:30pm.

No food on the fire.
No mattress. Just a thin old blanket on the floor.
Rent not paid for 3 months. Landlord says Tomorrow I will lock the door.

Esther is 23. She should be in school, dreaming of becoming a nurse.

But she is a full-time caretaker of her disabled little brother. He cannot walk. He cannot feed himself. Their mother disappeared. And the same to their father

Every morning Esther wakes up, cleans her brother, carries him outside to sunbathe, then goes to beg for food in Kigombwa Village. Sometimes she gets a cup of posho. Sometimes nothing.

Yesterday they slept hungry. Today again nothing.

Esther told me with tears, "Uncle John, I am tired. I love my brother but I have no food to give him. I have no money for rent. If they chase us, where will I take my brother who cannot walk?"

My heart broke.

This girl is too young to carry this heavy load.

At Sawula Children's Foundation, we want to help Esther but we have nothing in our store.

PLEASE HELP ESTHER TODAY:
20,000 UGX will feed them for a week
80,000 UGX will pay rent for 2 months so they are not chased
85,000 UGX will buy a mattress so her disabled brother stops sleeping on the cold floor
Any food, posho, rice, soap will save them tonight

When I met Mzee Muhammad 85 and Mama Christine 70 in Kyungu Village, their toilet had collapsed. They were using the bush. At their age. In sickness. No privacy. No dignity.

But because of YOU, we have renovated it

Madam Mary, I want to thank you so, so much from my heart. For your donation of posho and a mattress to Mama Christine and Mzee Muhammad.

Madam, you have wiped away tears. Christine is 70 years old. Yesterday at 6:30pm I found her cooking very little matooke, not enough for her family. Mzee Muhammad is 85 and has been sleeping on the cold floor, sick.

But today because of you, they have eaten full and they will sleep well on a new mattress. They are very, very happy. They are praying for you.

I found Christine at 6:30pm.

She is 70 years old.
She was standing over a small fire, peeling bananas.
Matooke for dinner.

But there were only a few.
Not enough for her husband Muhammad, 85 and sick.
Not enough for her son Robert, 53 and Deaf, who walked all day collecting bottles.

Christine cut each banana carefully.
Splitting them so the pieces could go round.
She smiled, but her eyes were tired.

At 70, she should be resting.
Instead she is cooking air and hope...
praying the small pot feeds 3 hungry people.

A mother’s love is big. But the food is little.
Can we help Christine fill her pot again?

Robert is 53 years old. And he is Deaf.

Every morning before the sun is up, Robert walks.
Not to work.
To the dustbins. To the streets. To the gutters.

He collects bottles.
Plastic. Glass. Anything people threw away.

Why?
Because at home, two people are waiting for him.
Muhammad, 85. Sick.
Christine, 70. Hungry.

There’s no pension. No job. No food. No toilet.
So Robert sells those bottles.
5,000 shillings here. 3,000 shillings there.
Just enough to buy posho. Beans. Panadol.

A son who cannot hear the world…
is shouting with his hands that he will not let his parents suffer.

Robert is tired. But love keeps him going.

He should be resting.
Drinking warm tea.
Telling stories to his grandchildren.

But instead, Muhammad is battling diseases.
Every night the pain keeps him awake.
There’s no money for medicine.
There’s no money for hospital.
There’s no food.
There’s no toilet.

His son Robert, 53 and Deaf, walks the whole day collecting bottles.
Just to buy Muhammad one meal.

An old man who worked his whole life…
now lies on a mat, waiting.
Muhammad is tired. But he is still here.
Can we help him get medicine, food, and dignity in his last years?
