Fighting Hunger, Promoting Nutrition, and Building Resilient Communities! 🌿
With generous support from Foundation, RESDA Africa continues its commitment to fighting hunger and malnutrition in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement through its Tower Gardening Project.
As part of this initiative, RESDA Africa distributed tower garden bags to community members and conducted practical training, equipping beneficiaries with the knowledge and skills to properly fill their tower bags with soil in preparation for planting vegetables.
🌱 Through this hands-on training, beneficiaries learned how to prepare and fill their tower gardens correctly, making effective use of the limited land available to them. These innovative gardens will enable refugee and host community families to grow fresh, nutritious vegetables right at their homes, improving household food security and nutrition.
💚 Together with USANA Foundation, RESDA Africa is turning limited spaces into opportunities for sustainable food production, empowering families to become more self-reliant and building a healthier, hunger-free community.

WHAT IF A 6-YEAR-OLD HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN SCHOOL AND TAKING CARE OF A BABY?
In Kyaka II Refugee Settlement, some children aged 3–6 years miss out on education because their parents leave home for casual work to find food. The older siblings are left behind to cook, wash dishes, and care for their younger brothers and sisters.

RESDA Africa was pleased to participate in a dissemination training on the Multisectoral Referral Pathway held in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement.

The training brought together different stakeholders and service providers to strengthen understanding of how individuals and families can be referred to the right services at the right time.

The session focused on strengthening coordination and collaboration among different sectors, including health, protection, education, livelihoods, and other essential services, to ensure that vulnerable community members receive appropriate and timely support.

At RESDA Africa, we believe that strong partnerships and effective referral systems are essential for building safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.

Today, RESDA Africa carried out an important activity at our greenhouse nursery, where we planted different types of vegetable seeds in nursery trays. 🌿
We planted a variety of seeds, including onions, collard greens, green pepper, spinach, and other vegetables. 🧅🥬🌶️🥗
🌱 Why are we doing this?
Our goal is to establish a reliable seedling source that will enable us to provide healthy seedlings free of charge to community members in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement and the surrounding host communities.
Through our Tower Gardening Project, we are supporting families who have limited access to land to grow nutritious vegetables in small spaces. By producing our own seedlings, we can reach more families, promote sustainable food production, and contribute to the fight against hunger and malnutrition.

RESDA AFRICA EMPOWERS THE COMMUNITY THROUGH NURSERY BED MANAGEMENT TRAINING 🌱

At RESDA AFRICA, we continue empowering communities in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement with practical agricultural knowledge and skills. As part of our commitment to fighting hunger and malnutrition, we are training community members on proper nursery bed management.

The training focuses on helping beneficiaries understand how to prepare and manage nursery beds, care for seedlings, improve germination, and raise healthy vegetables for transplanting.

We understand that many refugee families have limited or no access to enough garden land. That is why RESDA AFRICA is providing Tower Gardens, enabling families to grow nutritious vegetables even in small spaces. 🥬🌿

Through this initiative, we aim to increase access to fresh and healthy food, improve household nutrition, and empower families with sustainable farming skills.

RESDA AFRICA EXPANDS TOWER GARDENING TO NEW ZONES IN KYAKA II REFUGEE SETTLEMENT! 🌱
We are excited to introduce our Tower Gardening Project to two new zones of Kyaka II Refugee Settlement: Bukere A and Sweswe. 🥬🌿
The project aims to support refugee households, especially those with limited access to land, to grow nutritious vegetables using simple, space-saving tower gardens—contributing to improved food security, nutrition, and household resilience.
🤝 Our journey began with community engagement.
RESDA AFRICA first held meetings with local leaders in Bukere A and Sweswe to introduce the project, explain its objectives, and strengthen collaboration with community leadership.
👥 Beneficiary identification followed.
Working closely with the community, we started identifying eligible beneficiaries who will participate in the Tower Gardening Project and gain practical knowledge on establishing and managing their own vegetable gardens.
🌱 What comes next?
Beneficiaries will be supported with training and practical demonstrations on preparing tower gardens, planting vegetables, watering, monitoring, and maintaining their gardens for sustainable production.
Together, we are bringing farming closer to families—even where land is limited. 🌍💚
