At Liftup Community Initiative (LCI), we are empowering refugees, IDPs, and host communities through direct cash support to help them start small businesses and meet their basic needs.

Last week, 20 beneficiaries received over 20 million Ugandan Shillings, each receiving 1.2 million, in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement.

This support is helping families rebuild their lives, earn income, and become more self-reliant.
Cash assistance gives people the freedom to decide what matters most for their survival and future.

Today, we distributed 300 chicks to 30 beneficiaries, with each person receiving 30 chicks, tokens for feeds and treatment to support their poultry production.

Initiatives like these help strengthen livelihoods, boost local food production, and create real opportunities within refugee and host communities in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement. Liftup Community Initiative is pleased to announce the first engagement with its 2026 beneficiaries following the signing of an agreement with Stichting Crane under the “De Waterlander small Enterprise Project”, part of a broader program running from October 1, 2025, to March 31, 2030.
Through this initiative, 195 beneficiaries will receive support in poultry farming, rabbit rearing, carpentry, and business grants to strengthen their livelihoods and improve household income.
The beneficiaries include refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the host community, promoting economic empowerment, self-reliance, and peaceful coexistence. Given the limited economic opportunities and lack of vocational skills among the refugee population, Liftup Community Initiative took a bold step last year (2024) to introduce 10 participants from vulnerable households to the art of affordable exercise book (notebook) making, benefiting both the refugee and Ugandan host communities.
Since then, this project has transformed lives by enabling vulnerable families to start small businesses, earn income, and promote self-reliance, while also supporting low-income learners through the provision of affordable, locally made exercise books.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Wells Mountain Initiative for the generous support that made this possible. 🙏
