Yesterday was International Day of the Girl Child!

This year’s theme is “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis”.

Girls with disability often face extra barriers when crisis or injustice happens, like ableism, non-accessible places and a lack of support.

However, so many of us still choose to use our voice when we see something wrong or harmful. We celebrated our power to speak up and get involved. We recognised our rights, our strength, and our ideas – our tools to create change and get involved in the conversation!

Whether you join protests, volunteer, or support a cause, you are helping to make change and make better outcomes for everyone. We are committed to ensuring our voices are heard, recognised and valued in policy reform.

From birth, many people with albinism are subjected to mockery and exclusion, which significantly impacts their self-esteem. Throughout their lives, they face discrimination and are at significant risk of assault, mutilation and abduction in certain contexts.

Repeated experiences of stigmatization, discrimination and violence can cause psychological suffering and lead to the development of disorders such as anxiety and depression. These disorders are often misdiagnosed and inadequately treated due to limited access to specialized care and a lack of awareness surrounding mental health issues.

Yesterday we were previledged to host a team from Abilis Foundation headquarters to to monitor and discuss the project success with our beneficiaries in maliba Town council, Kasese district, western Uganda.

Project title: Goat rearing among youth with disabilities in Kasese district.

Key highlights from the meeting with beneficiaries.

- Abilis Foundation team from Finland and Uganda appreciated ADYONET for having supported youth with disabilities with livelihood programs.
- Beneficiaries appreciated Abilis Foundation for the livelihood support rendered to them.
- Stakeholders committed themselves to continue supporting the program beyond the project life more.
- More youth with disabilities to benefit from the project through a revolving approach.
