World Education Day – 24th January
Yesterday, 24th January, the world marked International Day of Education, a day dedicated to celebrating education as a fundamental human right and a powerful driver of sustainable development.
On this important day, Soroptimist International Kampala Club proudly reflects on its strong contribution to advancing education in Uganda. The club has consistently supported girls’ education by providing scholarships to vulnerable girls, enabling them to stay in school and pursue their dreams despite financial challenges. In addition, the club has distributed school supplies such as exercise books, pens, uniforms, shoes, and sanitary pads to learners in underserved communities, helping to create a more supportive and dignified learning environment.
Beyond material support, Soroptimist International Kampala Club actively advocates for girls’ education, raises awareness about the importance of keeping girls in school, and works with schools and communities to address barriers such as poverty, poor sanitation, and lack of basic learning resources. The club also supports skills development initiatives that empower young women and girls to become self-reliant and confident contributors to society.
As the world celebrates Education Day, Soroptimist International Kampala Club reaffirms its commitment to educate, empower, and enable women and girls, recognizing that educating a girl is not only transforming one life but uplifting families, communities, and the nation at large.
Education is the foundation for equality, opportunity, and a brighter future for Uganda.
