Soroptimist International Kampala, in partnership with St. Jude Primary School, has established a Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) program to nurture and develop the talents of children from both the school and the surrounding community.

To support the initiative, SI Kampala donated musical instruments, including a piano, local drums, and other equipment. Next week, a senior music trainer will begin training sessions to help the children develop their skills, confidence, and creativity through music, dance, and drama.

We warmly invite other Soroptimist clubs and partners to join and support this initiative as we work together to empower young people through talent development and the arts.

Yesterday, SI Kampala and SI Gold Coast donated school supplies, including exercise books and pens, as well as sanitary towels to 300 children of St. Joseph’s School.

St. Joseph’s is one of the schools with a large number of vulnerable children, making this support especially meaningful. Many girls at the school have been missing classes due to a lack of sanitary towels, which affects their education and confidence.

It was therefore a great pleasure to provide these essential items, helping to keep the girls in school and supporting the overall well-being and education of all the children.

World Education Day – 24th January

Yesterday, 24th January, the world marked International Day of Education, a day dedicated to celebrating education as a fundamental human right and a powerful driver of sustainable development.

On this important day, Soroptimist International Kampala Club proudly reflects on its strong contribution to advancing education in Uganda. The club has consistently supported girls’ education by providing scholarships to vulnerable girls, enabling them to stay in school and pursue their dreams despite financial challenges. In addition, the club has distributed school supplies such as exercise books, pens, uniforms, shoes, and sanitary pads to learners in underserved communities, helping to create a more supportive and dignified learning environment.

Beyond material support, Soroptimist International Kampala Club actively advocates for girls’ education, raises awareness about the importance of keeping girls in school, and works with schools and communities to address barriers such as poverty, poor sanitation, and lack of basic learning resources. The club also supports skills development initiatives that empower young women and girls to become self-reliant and confident contributors to society.

As the world celebrates Education Day, Soroptimist International Kampala Club reaffirms its commitment to educate, empower, and enable women and girls, recognizing that educating a girl is not only transforming one life but uplifting families, communities, and the nation at large.

Education is the foundation for equality, opportunity, and a brighter future for Uganda.

We ended the year with a wonderful visit to the women’s group we support in Myanzi. SI Kampala and SI Gold Coast carried out a joint project to support the group, during which we visited their gardens to see how they are progressing. During the visit, we provided gumboots and watering cans and shared a big meal with the children in the area. Both the women and the children ended 2025 with big smiles, feeling supported and encouraged.
