"Inclusion is not charity—it is recognizing talent and giving everyone an equal opportunity to contribute."
Responding to a question during the Employer-Led Business Symposium for Vocational Training Institutions on whether USSIA is considering students with special needs, Mr. Andrew Walusimbi emphasized that true inclusion goes beyond policy. It requires changing mindsets within industry.
He noted that some employers hesitate to hire people with disabilities whether someone has one finger, four fingers, or is missing a leg yet many of these individuals possess exceptional skills and talent. The focus should not be on physical limitations, but on ability, potential, and the value each person brings to the workplace.
USSIA is encouraging industry players to embrace inclusion, appreciate diversity, and provide equal opportunities for persons with special needs not just by employing them, but by valuing them as equal members of the workforce.
