As we step into 2026, our focus is clear. Deepening climate justice. Strengthening community-led solutions. Ensuring African voices shape decisions, not just attend them.

This year, we commit to moving beyond awareness into action. Centering people. Advancing equity. Pushing for climate finance, adaptation, and policies that reflect lived realities across Africa.

The work continues. The responsibility grows. And our resolve remains firm.

As the year comes to a close, we pause to reflect on the journeys, conversations, and collective efforts that shaped our work this year.

Christmas is a reminder of compassion, shared responsibility, and the power of community. These values continue to guide our commitment to climate justice, people-centered solutions, and inclusive action across Africa.

As we step into the New Year, we carry renewed hope, stronger resolve, and a deeper responsibility to push for systems that protect people, nature, and future generations. The work ahead remains urgent, but so does our belief in collaboration, equity, and meaningful action.

Thank you to our partners, communities, and supporters for walking this journey with us.

Wishing you a peaceful Christmas and a purposeful New Year.

At COP30, our side event on Climate Education reinforced a simple truth. Education shapes action early.

Panelist Nicole reflected that if climate change had been taught from primary or secondary school, many young people would already be building real solutions today. She emphasized that climate education must be practical, accessible, and translated into languages and contexts grassroots communities understand.

Climate action starts with knowledge that reaches everyone.

Today, we mark International Human Rights Day by reminding ourselves that climate justice is, at its core, a human rights issue.

Across Africa, communities are losing land, livelihoods, and safety to floods, heat, drought, and pollution. These are not just environmental events, they are human realities that determine who eats, who learns, who works, and who survives.

At YHA, we believe that every person has the right to live in a safe, healthy, and resilient environment.

A just climate transition must protect people first: their dignity, their security, and their ability to thrive.

As the world reflects on commitments made at COP30, we must ensure that human rights remain at the centre of climate action, especially for those who are already living through the hardest impacts.

Climate justice is human rights. And human rights must guide every step toward a livable future.

Climate mobility is not a future issue, it is a reality communities are living every day. People are moving, adapting, or becoming trapped as climate impacts intensify. Justice begins when we create systems that protect their rights, support their choices, and invest in solutions led by those on the frontlines.

COP30 has ended, but the real work starts now.
Across negotiations, panels, and actions in Belém, one message stayed clear: frontline communities cannot keep waiting for justice.

We saw progress in new commitments and stronger youth voices, but critical gaps remain. Adaptation finance is still slow. Local and youth led groups are still fighting for access. Fossil fuel phase out was pushed aside again.

At Yanayi Haki Afriqya, we showed up to amplify community realities, lead conversations on climate information access, and push for people centered solutions.

COP30 is over. Our commitment is not.
We move with clarity, partnerships, and purpose.

Grateful to have co-hosted, alongside the The Climate Mobility Community Action Network Climate Alaramma Sustainable Development Initiative (CASDI) and the Global Centre for Climate Mobility , a powerful dialogue on Climate Mobility, Justice & Resilience: Youth-Led Solutions for a Changing World.

Across regions, one message was clear:

Youth are already shaping the future of climate (im)mobilities, they must be at the center of decision-making.

Key Takeaways

- Youth-led innovations are strengthening early warning systems, preparedness, and community resilience.

- Financing and meaningful representation remain major gaps.

- Cross-regional collaboration between youth is essential for a just, rights-based global response.

- Effective climate mobility policy must be intersectional, feminist, and community-rooted.

Our Call to Action

As countries implement the Kampala Ministerial Declaration on Migration, Environment & Climate Change, we emphasize:

🔗 The Kampala Declaration must be youth-driven.
Youth must have the power, resources, and platforms to shape national and regional climate mobility planning.

Huge appreciation to our panelists:

MARILIA Papaléo Gagliardi (RESMA)

Natalia Cirilo Mel (Life of Pachamama)

Sophie Brenda Namonye (GCCM)

Rabeb Aloui (UNEP Women Major Group)

Tinokunda Natalia Chimhowa (GCCM)

And thank you to moderator Jasmima Sabatina and opening remarks by Salma Hassan from the Global Center for Climate Mobility.

YHA will continue advancing youth leadership in climate mobility, justice, and resilience across Africa and beyond.

Our side event on Climate and Environmental Education brought together powerful perspectives on how learning can drive resilience for marginalized communities.

Speakers highlighted the urgent need to centre people in climate action. Key reflections included the reminder that communities cannot build resilience on empty stomachs, that climate education must be accessible to all, and that the simplest, locally grounded solutions often create the strongest impact.

We appreciated the contributions from teachers, youth leaders, community representatives, and partners who enriched the discussion with real experiences and practical pathways.

At Yanayi Haki Afriqya, we remain committed to ensuring that education becomes a core pillar of adaptation, justice and long term climate resilience across our region.
