CRS Responds to Mudslide Victims in Eastern Uganda:

In late October 2025, deadly mudslides in Bukwo and Kween districts tragically claimed over 30 lives and affected thousands. CRS has stepped in to support vulnerable families through Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), providing mobile cash transfers based on household size and vulnerability.

Families were also guided on prioritizing food and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) needs, practicing joint household budgeting, and using the Feedback, Complaints, and Response Mechanism (FCRM) to share concerns.

This support helps survivors regain dignity, choice, and resilience as they begin to rebuild their lives.

Advancing Evidence for Mosquito & Malaria Control in Humanitarian Settings

On Wednesday, November 12, findings from a retail audit of mosquito control products in Bidibidi, Northwestern Uganda, were presented at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) Annual Meeting.

This research was conducted by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Uganda in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs under the Advancing Evidence for the Global Implementation of Spatial Repellents project.

Key findings from the audit include:

65.4% of retail outlets sell mosquito control products

Insecticidal incense sticks were the most common product (56.4%)

Followed by adult Insecticide Treated Nets (29.1%)

And non-insecticidal incense sticks (27.3%)

Most outlets restock monthly, sourcing mainly from local wholesalers

CRS Uganda is proud to contribute to the growing evidence base for mosquito and malaria control in humanitarian contexts—especially through a market-based lens.

Special appreciation to the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, Notre Dame University, and project funder Unitaid for their invaluable collaboration and support.

📢 Stay tuned—our full manuscript on this work will be published in the coming weeks to months!

🏡 Hope to Home Project closes

We’re proud to mark the close of the Hope to Home Project in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, implemented by CRS in partnership with Caritas Hoima and supported through CRS Charitable Giving.

Over three years, the project provided 546 durable shelters, offering safe and dignified housing to 2,167 refugees and host community members, while also strengthening livelihoods and construction skills.

Thank you to all our partners, participants, and supporters for helping build not just homes — but hope. 💛

🌽🌱 Strengthening food security in Bidibidi Refugee Settlement!

CRS, under the Uganda Regreening Communities in Yumbe District Project (ANCP), conducted postharvest handling training in Zones 4 & 5 of Bidibidi Refugee Settlement.

👩‍🌾 A total of 250 refugee participants were equipped with practical skills to properly manage harvested crops like maize, beans, and groundnuts. The training focused on:
✅ Reducing postharvest losses
✅ Preventing contamination
✅ Improving food safety and quality

By reducing spoilage and improving storage practices, refugee households can maintain safe food supplies, strengthen their livelihoods, and enhance food security in the settlement. 💛

The project is implemented in partnership with World Vision Uganda. and CARE International in Uganda
