Soccer Without Borders Uganda The youth are able to share in an effort toward achieving tangible goals.

Using soccer and education as a vehicle for positive change, SWB Uganda serves 300 refugee youth with daily programs at its Nsambya Youth Center, hosts the Kampala Girls League, Nsambya Barefoot League, Bondeko Gala series, and numerous Goal 5 Projects. We provide a safe space and an opportunity for urban refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan and Somalia to integrate with their Ugandan peers.

A while back, we brought together parents and guardians of participants in our formal school scholarship programme for a conversation on how things are going at school.

The session gave parents and the SWB team space to share feedback, discuss challenges, and find practical ways to better support the young people as they continue their education.

These conversations are an important part of strengthening the scholarship programme and making sure the support goes beyond simply getting a child into school.

We believe more refugee youth deserve the opportunity to access formal education and the opportunities it creates. With continued support, we can open this opportunity to more young people and help more families see education as a pathway to a brighter future.

Thank you to our friends at The Second Saves Initiative🧤

Sometimes, a little extra equipment can go a long way. ✈️

Thanks to Second Saves, 15 gently used goalkeeper gloves collected from all over the United States have made their way to our Uganda program, where they will support 11 teams and help young goalkeepers have the equipment they need to play confidently and safely on the field. 🙌

Second Saves was started by a father, a former goalkeeper, and his son, a current goalkeeper, with a simple idea: why let good goalkeeper gloves go to waste when they still have life left in them? Together, they collect, clean, and give pre-loved gloves a second life with young goalkeepers who might otherwise have limited access to quality equipment. ♻️

Thank you, The Second Saves Initiative, for bringing great equipment back to the game and helping young goalkeepers play with confidence! 💚

UGL 6th Edition — Final Day ⚽💙

What a way to close the 6th edition of the Uganda Girls League! The final day was full of energy, great football, and big smiles. You play better when you smile. 😊⚽

Over the league, more than 400 girls came together to play, learn, celebrate, and showcase the talent and passion for football.

Today, we also celebrated the achievements of the teams and recognised individual players for their performances. 🏆👏🏾

Spaces like UGL matter. Girls need opportunities to play the game they love, build confidence, express themselves, and see the potential of what they can achieve.

The first outing brought girls from different communities together for a day of football, fun, connection, and new experiences on the pitch.

It was great to see the girls playing, meeting new friends, building confidence, and enjoying the game together.

Boys from different communities came together to play, meet new friends, and enjoy the game alongside one another. For many, it has always been also a chance to connect with the wider community, build friendships, and feel a sense of belonging.

As our participants complete their second term exams, we reflect on the many things that can shape a child’s experience and the importance of having spaces where they can learn, play, connect, and feel a sense of belonging.
