Soccer Without Borders Uganda

Soccer Without Borders Uganda The youth are able to share in an effort toward achieving tangible goals.

Using soccer and education as a vehicle for positive change, SWB Uganda serves 300 refugee youth with daily programs at its Nsambya Youth Center, hosts the Kampala Girls League, Nsambya Barefoot League, Bondeko Gala series, and numerous Goal 5 Projects. We provide a safe space and an opportunity for urban refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan and Somalia to integrate with their Ugandan peers.

The second outing of the Urafiki Boys League brought together even more energy, connection, and excitement.

From warm greetings between teams to the moments shared on the pitch, the day was filled with football, laughter, teamwork, and new friendships. Boys from different communities and backgrounds came together not only to compete, but also to connect and enjoy the game together.

Thank you to all the teams, coaches, and young people continuing to make the Urafiki Boys League a positive and welcoming space for everyone.

This week, we have been implementing the No Means No (NMN) curriculum with girls from different community teams, reaching over 100 girls through sessions focused on confidence, consent, boundaries, and self-defense.

Through guided discussions and practical activities, the girls are learning how to use their voices to defend themselves against SGBV, support one another, and respond to unsafe situations. These sessions are intentionally designed as girls-only spaces, creating an environment where participants feel free to share ideas and experiences, learn, ask questions, and connect with one another openly.

As first term holiday sessions come to an end tomorrow, we are encouraged by the engagement, participation, and learning shared throughout the week πŸ’™

The Community Coaches Training in Nakivale comes to a close.

After 5 days of learning, practice, and collaboration, community coaches from different refugee settlements completed the training with final reflections, feedback sessions, and certification.

Throughout the week, coaches explored inclusive coaching methods, social-emotional learning, safeguarding, sustainable & global goals and ways of integrating numeracy and learning through football. Practical field sessions gave coaches the opportunity to lead activities, learn from peers, and receive guidance from SWB trainers.

This was a space for connection, shared experiences, and building a stronger network of coaches committed to creating safe and positive environments for young people through sport.

We are excited to see this learning carried back into communities across Uganda.

A strong performance from our Phoenix boys βš½πŸ’™

A very competitive match, but the boys stepped up and delivered a result that shows how much they are growing together on the pitch.

With Matchday 12 played, we continue pushing forward as we build towards the final games of the season, with our eyes on promotion to the 5th Division.

Today, a group of five of our participants had an opportunity to engage beyond the field at the residence of the British High Commissioner in Nakasero.

Together, they interacted with the British High Commissioner to Uganda, Lisa Chesney, as well as members of the team including Robbie Lyle, Cecile, Lee, and others.

It was a meaningful space for conversation, connection, and sharing experiences, where our young people were able to represent themselves and speak about their journeys. The appreciation shown for the work of SWB in supporting youth made the moment even more impactful.

We look forward to more opportunities like this that continue to connect our participants to new spaces and experiences πŸ’™βš½

We are proud to celebrate Jules Mayele Murhula, our Director of Soccer Without Borders Uganda, who recently participated in the Connected & Courageous event during the Skoll World Forum in Oxford, United Kingdom. Coach Jules presented to an audience of more than 220 funders, practitioners, donors, and sector stakeholders about our work at SWB Uganda and highlighted evidence-based strategies that foster connection, resilience, and civic courage.

At a time when civil societies are under increasing strain, the well-being of boys and young men requires creative, community-driven solutions. The event brought together global leaders to share ideas and strategies focused on supporting boys’ and young men’s well-being, underscoring the importance of connection, resilience, and positive development.
We are inspired to see this work represented on a global stage.

Thank you to our incredible partners at and to all the other panelists who made this event a great success.

The Community Coaches Training has officially kicked off today at Nakivale Base Camp βš½πŸ’™

This training brings together community coaches working in refugee settlements, with a clear goal of strengthening how football can be used as a tool for community building, youth development, and creating safe and fun spaces for young people.

Over the next 5 days, coaches will build skills in inclusive coaching, social-emotional learning, safeguarding, and creative ways to support learning such as numeracy through football.

The day began with introductions, setting the tone for collaboration and shared learning. A big thank you to Coach Jules, Coach Fahaby, Coach Becky, and Coach Sauda for leading and facilitating this important work.

We look forward to the impact this training will bring back into communities.

A beautiful day of learning beyond the classroom 🌿

Our annual youth educational trip took us to the Entebbe Zoo, where learning came to life. From seeing wild animals up close to exploring nature, it was a day full of discovery, fun, and shared experiences. For many of the children, it was their first time seeing these animals in real life, making the experience even more special.

From the opening circle at the youth center to the closing circle at the end of the day, it was a meaningful journey together. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces as they connected with nature made it even more memorable.

Moments like these turn learning into lasting memories πŸ’™

Learning looks different every day, but it always brings smiles πŸ“šπŸ˜Š

In classes, you can feel the focus, hear the laughter, and see the joy in learning.

These simple moments are what make the experience truly meaningful πŸ’™
