Mwagale Foundation Impact Report: 209 Mattresses Delivered to Nakichelet Primary School Survivors.

In a transformative act of compassion, Mwagale Foundation equipped Nakichelet Primary School in Napak district, Karamoja, with essential supplies for 209 rescued children. These young survivors, repatriated from street begging networks in Kampala and Mbale, now have safe sleeping spaces amid severe shortages in this high-risk trafficking hotspot.

Child Trafficking Crisis in Uganda
Street begging ensnares thousands of Ugandan children in modern slavery, exposing them to violence, abuse, malnutrition, and re-trafficking. Karamoja rehabilitation schools like Nakichelet lack basics children previously slept on cold floors, vulnerable to malaria, hypothermia, and illness, undermining recovery and education.

Measurable Donation Impact
We provided 209 mattresses, 209 mosquito nets, 209 blankets, and 209 bedsheets, ensuring dignified rest for every child. Results include:
Malaria prevention: Nets reduce bites by up to 50%, boosting health and attendance.

Learning gains: Restful sleep enhances focus, retention, and resilience key to breaking poverty cycles.

Long-term outcomes: Survivors become advocates, with 80% school retention in similar Mwagale programs.
This aligns with our evidence-based model education, skills training, and family reintegration reduce recidivism by fostering stability.

Inspired by Matthew 25:40 "Whatever you did for one of the least of these... you did for me" our faith-rooted approach drives scalable change.

In the red dust of Karamoja, a drumbeat rises not just a sound, but a heartbeat of hope. Here, young voices refuse to be silenced. Their feet dance defiantly against the invisible chains of human trafficking. At Nsambya Sharing Youth Centre, hope found its home.
This was “Behind the Scenes: 4 Pillars Echoes of Hope,” the Mwagale Foundation’s first-ever theatre advocacy event against human trafficking and it changed everything.

Children from the Mwagale Foundation Anti-Human Trafficking Clubs at Lokodiokodioi Primary School and Lotome Girls Primary School stood proudly with young talents we support through education in Moroto. They shared the stage with brave performers from our beloved partners:
✨ The Salvation Army
✨ Omutti Kreative
✨ Moroto Women’s Desk
✨ The KRAAL – Moroto
✨ Avex Entertainment Group and so many more passionate hearts.

Through moving drama, stirring songs, traditional dances, and poems that brought tears, these young voices showed us the harsh reality of human trafficking as an organized crime. But more importantly, they declared boldly and loudly: “We will not be taken. We will rise.”

Our hearts were full to see Commissioner Twinomujuni Julius (COPTIP) as our Guest of Honour, alongside Napak District leaders the RDC, CAO, LCV, DEO, Senior Probation Officer and many others. The hall overflowed with community members, partners, survivor representatives, Catholic sisters and fathers, and groups tirelessly fighting for justice and freedom.

A special, heartfelt tribute was given by our CEO Ndagire Joanita Josh to Sister Fernanda of Moroto Women’s Desk, and with deep gratitude, to Sister Lilly the woman who first whispered the idea to “use theatre to fight this evil” and even paid for the hall years ago. Though she never saw this day, her whisper was the spark that ignited this journey. You are our pillars, forever part of this movement.

To every child who stepped up and performed, every leader who listened deeply, and every partner who stood with us thank you. Your presence turned quiet echoes into powerful thunder.
Let’s keep this drumbeat alive. Together, we give children a second chance. Together, we protect. Together, we end human trafficking.

Uganda-India Bilateral Symposium on Human Trafficking successfully convened key stakeholders dedicated to addressing the critical challenges of cross-border trafficking. Co-organized by Mwagale Foundation, The Salvation Army Uganda Territory, and Red Rope Movement (India), the event’s second day took place in Kampala at Four Points by Sheraton.
Founder of Mwagale Foundation, Ndagire Joanita Josh, emphasized the essential role of survivor voices in shaping policies and agreements, stressing that solutions must come from those directly impacted by trafficking. The symposium brought together representatives from UCATIP, COPTIP, Willow International, RAHAB Uganda, A Child Smile Uganda, Uganda Police Force, Human Trafficking Institute, Kyampisi, Footprint To Freedom, UGANDA CHILD RIGHTS NGO NETWORK - UCRNN, and more.
We extend our gratitude to the Ugandan and Indian governments for their vital support in the safe repatriation of trafficking victims. This collaborative effort highlights the urgent need to combat trafficking networks exploiting vulnerable populations, particularly African women trafficked to India under false employment promises.
The partnership between NGOs and government agencies signals a stronger, united front to enhance prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, and survivor empowerment.
Mwagale Foundation and partners are committed to continuing this important work fighting trafficking while promoting healing, freedom, and dignity for survivors.

Mwagale Foundation, in collaboration with The Salvation Army Uganda Territory, proudly marked the World Day of Prayer for Victims of Modern-Day Slavery and Human Trafficking, embracing this year’s theme: Light To Life.

In preparation for the event, we carried out an extensive community sensitization campaign in Mbale to raise awareness about the realities of human trafficking and modern slavery. Our activities included a live Radio talk show on Big FM, where Ndagire Joanita Josh and survivors shared critical information and answered community questions. This was complemented by engaging roundtable discussions broadcast live, creating an interactive platform for dialogue among community leaders, youth representatives, and stakeholders.

A vibrant band procession marched through the major streets of Mbale, drawing public attention and mobilizing collective support against trafficking. We held dedicated breakout sessions focused on mental healing and trauma recovery for survivors and affected families, recognizing the deep psychological impact of exploitation.

Our outreach extended door-to-door, allowing us to connect personally with households to share vital information and prevention strategies. In the evening, a bonfire session provided a reflective space for community members to unite, share experiences, and renew their commitment to ending trafficking.

To deepen awareness and provoke community action, we screened a powerful film highlighting pressing issues such as early child marriage and the externalization of labor, both of which are closely linked to human trafficking risks.

The entire campaign and event reaffirmed our shared mission: To bring light and hope to the lives of those affected by modern slavery, ensuring survivors receive the care, justice, and freedom they deserve.

Together with our partners and the Mbale more Nauyo community, we continue to stand firm in the fight against human trafficking.
