🌿 URGENT CALL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION & COMMUNITY ACTION 🌿
Hello, my name is Okello Ambrose from Zanzibar A, Ayago-Akokoro, Apac District.
Our forests are disappearing at an alarming rate due to excessive tree cutting for charcoal burning and brick-making. Many of our people rely on these activities for survival because they have no alternative sources of income. But if we continue down this path, what will be left for future generations?
We need practical solutions that fit our rural way of life—solutions that protect the environment without taking away people’s livelihoods.
A Local Solution That Works: Tree Distribution & Sustainable Livelihoods
✅ Tree Seedling Distribution: We can distribute fast-growing trees (such as eucalyptus, acacia, and fruit trees) so that people plant trees instead of cutting natural forests.
✅ Agroforestry: Encourage farmers to plant trees alongside crops for shade, soil improvement, and future wood supply.
✅ Alternative Livelihoods: Train and support our people in bee-keeping, mushroom growing, and fish farming as income sources that don’t destroy trees.
✅ Eco-Friendly Bricks: Promote compressed earth bricks that require less firewood for burning.
✅ Efficient Cooking Methods: Distribute and train households in using fuel-saving cookstoves that use less firewood or charcoal.
CALL TO ACTION
We need support from our leaders, environmental organizations, and local communities to help distribute tree seedlings and train our people on alternative income sources that do not rely on deforestation.
💡 What do you think is the best way forward? Can we work together to plant trees and protect our environment while ensuring people still earn a living?
Let’s unite to create a sustainable future for Apac and Uganda! 🌱💚
